Hogan's Post Election Priority

Anonymous
His post election priority on the first day of the legislative session will not be to:
A) improve the quality of Maryland's schools, which have declined under his first term.
B) improve the quality of Maryland's business environment which has suffered many job losses under his first term

Instead, his priority is setting up an "emergency" commission redraw Maryland Congressional districts to reduce gerrymandering.

While I think gerrymandering is long, Maryland is the only Democrat majority state with gerrymandering while 13 other red states are gerrymandered to favor Republicans. It's hypocritical for Hogan to support this initiative in Maryland without calling out his GOP colleagues for their far more egregious instances of gerrymandering and asking them to adhere to the same principles.

It’s hypocritical but do you think he cares? He sees a future for himself in the Republican Party and that’s all that matters. You voted for this, Maryland.

Why is this such a hard concept for you to understand? Hogan has repeatedly said that he only concentrates on issues in governing MD and stays out of national politics. The gerrymandering in MD is his business as the governor of MD. The gerrymandering that goes on outside of MD in 13 other states is not his business regardless of how egregious it is.

I like having a governor who focuses on my state and is not lobbying for his next job on the national stage while he is in office in my state.

It's hard for us to understand because some of us equate leadership with standing up against injustice. So when Hogan responded to the Muslim ban, not by calling out Trump for his bigotry, but rather by removing any criticism of the Muslim ban from his public website (something the ACLU successfully sued him for), that shows what kind of leader he is. Hogan's again showing his true colors on the gerrymandering issue. Hypocritical all the way.

The second term hasn't even begun yet.

The courts ordered the Maryland districts to be redrawn. Hogan is complying with what the courts are ordering.

Next, please.

The democrats in MD need to think hard about this. If they had not chosen someone as bad a Jealous they would not be losing out. A solid moderate Democrat with experience would have won easily. Putting up a fool with zero experience and only a desire to show boat on the national stage was a big mistake.

The moderate Dems voted for Hogan last election and supported him this election. No one was going to beat him, so the Dems threw out a Commie Racist. Nice job Maryland Dems!

Quietly start laying the foundation for his 2020 run for President without catching the notice of the current President (who would crush him like a gnat).

Totally serious.

Agreed. It was a blue wave year in a blue state, and Jealous, with his lack of experience, was not the best candidate the Democratic party could put forward.

As a Democrat I would like to agree but the candidate from the last cycle, Anthony Brown, wasn't very good either. Maybe the party's bench is thinner than I thought.

I think the democratic party is fighting with the fact the having leftist attitudes is causing them problems; I dont mean liberal.

It was very intering to watch how the left doubled down on their hatred of the moderates and, especially, the far right, when Trump won the election.

The general attitude by the democratic party in Maryland has been “We can do whatever we want, and we dont care what the citizens say.” Time and time again we’ve seen that in Maryland, and Hogan’s election / re-election is really about the people saying the want a moderate.

The thing that concerns me greatly is the lack of thinking voters in Maryland. For example:

I went to vote and I was the second person in line. The guy next to me had just moved to MD from DC; it was his first time voting in MD. We got to speaking and he didnt know ANY of the candiates. His plan was just to vote democrat down the line... thats it.

Thats the kind of crap the emboldens gerrymandering.

I think the partys pool of substantially qualified people is limited. I’m really begining to think that democrats in Annapolis are so used to getting their way, that they don’t put up decent candidates, and that the pool of truly qualified candiates no longer exists.
