I have been homebound with H1N1 for two weeks. thankfully, my toddler has recovered and is back to her healthy self. Me? Still struggling. I can't get an appointment with my doctor. I can't stand in line at urgent care with a healthy baby, and I can't endure suffering what is surely a sinus infection any longer.

sigh.

Oh, I am sorry. That sounds truly horrible. Perhaps someone may be able to stay with your baby while you go to urgent care. Good luck!

You need antibiotics. .. .stat. We never fully recovered until we all got some antibiotics as well. Stands to reason, worn down from flu, got bacterial infection on top of it. I hope you can get some help ASAP.

Go to a CVS minute clinic. They have MUCH shorter lines and can help you with H1N1 diagnosis and a sinus infection.

I'm sorry--this sucks. I'm glad your toddler is OK. How do you know it's H1N1? I hope you can get diagnosed and some relief soon.

Eating spicy food always helps clear my sinuses.

A neti pot, which you can buy at CVS, also does wonders. It sounds gross but really does clear the sinuses.

OP, I used a syringe for baby tylenol, filled it with warm salt water and baking soda (got the "recipe" off the internet) and squirted it up my nose several times. You can also use one of those nasal aspirators to squirt it. That helped a lot. At one point my nose was so clogged that every time I swallowed it created a vacuum and I had a sinus headache first thing in the morning that had me whimpering in pain. Horrible.

agree 100%

I suffer from sinusitis and haven't had one infection this year b/c I use it faithfully.

yes, gross indeed but effective!

I have heard so many people swear by some variation of the neti pot, I'm almost tempted to try it. BUt I just can't do it!

You've GOT to get a neti pot. Since my husband got his, he has stopped snoring, uses fewer sinus meds and has had no sinus infections. The warm salt water feels good, as long you tilt your head the right way so it drains out your other nostril and not down your throat.

This is the original poster. I apologize for the crass subject head. I felt SO bad and was venting.

I am healthy now, and this is what I learned. Take this H1N1 business seriously. I never get sick. I haven't had the flu since I was a kid. And then. . .I got the flu, thought I could power through it, and ended up with a sinus and lung infection. According to my doctor, my immune system was working overtime and couldn't take care of the mulitple bacteria and germs that squatted in my body.

People, take this thing seriously. I doused myself and my daughter in Purell sanitizer before contact with anyone, and washed my hands to the point that they were raw. But I still regret venturing out of the house one day when I could have infected others. We needed milk.

Every case is different, but if you get sick, do everything in your power to take care of yourself first. Recruit others to help you and don't try and be a rockstar.

oh, and the neti pot and antibiotics were godsends. thanks PPs for the advice.

So, OP--I can't tell: did your doctor confirm that you for sure had swine flu? Just curious.
Anonymous
Not OP, but what she describes sounds exactly like when I had the swine flu in July. My doc did confirm it, and I didn't go to him until I had three secondary infections. That's thing abouut this - it doesn't go away on its own for many people. My kid rested and was over it 100% in a week. I walked around miserable for weeks!
