| 5 percent? why did i bother shelling out $1000 in injectible meds for a measly 5 percent chance?! |
| Because your chances would be worse without it? |
| This is a good question for the doctor over seeing your cycle. |
| Where are you in your cycle? Is this based on monitoring after using the injectables? Or is it based on the sperm count after wash, etc? |
Yeah...IVF is more like a 20-25% shot. Or at least for me. I was a hard case. It's actually why my RE sent me straight to IVF. I will tell you that Shady Grove planned to start me on IUI's - I went for a second opinion and GW was like why would you bother. Turns out, IUI stats are not tracked and reported on like IVF. They didn't want me messing up their stats. So, talk to your doctor about their reasons and maybe get a second opinion. GW is good as they are not as commercial but I'm sure there are others like them. Been 13 years since I went through this Good luck!

The nurse didn't say why she said that. She looked at my age (35) and the sperm count was 6.2x10 to the whatever, and i had 3 follicles but not sure how many mature (16, 17, and 21mm). then she said, when you get your negative test, you can come in for your next baseline. |
What is your diagnosis? I would expect higher odds given your age and number of mature follicles. |
|
I thought it was 20%.
But for some people IUI works great. I wasn't ovulating on time/not at all and the clomid+trigger shot + progesterone worked perfectly for my body. We'd tried for 4 years before and 1 year of really well timed everything and never got pregnant. For both my kids IUI worked the first time. |
I have bad DOR. So a low AMH (.3) low AFC (3-5) and high FSH (11) |
|
I'm all for managing expectations, but it should be before your cycle begins, unless things go unexpectedly and they have to update the outlook. If she really was rude about it, I'd tell the doc at least. Some people have to do IUI for insurance to get to IVF even though it's not likely to work - maybe she had cases mixed up, but still no excuse.
|
She wasn't rude but this was as the procedure was happening. I think I was just shocked at how low that number was |
| Your numbers and protocol sound similar to mine (some are better even). My IUI worked on the first go, so can happen! Positive vibes for you |
| I have DOR too and was advised to go right to IVF by GW and SGF. Sorry, OP, they should have given you those odds before you started the IUI cycle. |
They won't do IVF on me since I generate so few follicles. I think 4 was the threshold for them to retrieve. |
I see. They still should have told you the odds beforehand. At what clinic are you? Have you thought about natural cycle IVF? That's what we'll probably do if my DOR gets much worse (my AFC is 6-8, so not as low as yours yet). |
