SJC doesn’t need to play prep, it’s pointless. There is no upside for SJC. |
You actually can see what all these schools alumni think about their alma maters by looking at the alumni donation percentages. SJC just doesn’t have the alumni depth and devotion that the other schools here do - Catholic and non and that is just a fact. SJC is on the rise but still has a ways to go. They are really working on it though. |
True but it’s an easy win and it’s local. Score was 16-6 last time so it is rather pointless. |

Objectively speaking, I see both sides. Prep won't play SJC at the start of the season in March and SJC didn't want to play the Hoyas at the end of the season in May. Regardless of your schools affiliation, there should be a final DMV game at the end of the season, that matches up the IAC champ for the WCAC champ. Mad Lax founder tried to organize a final DMV title and the Cadets declined, while Prep did not. As for the Spring of 2024, I do hope Cabbell arranges a DMV title match between both league champs. |
The season is over the first week of May. Teams trying to play after the season is over is a joke. March to May is plenty of time to play games. They play 18-20 games if they make it to the Championship. Most play their conference schedules in April so you play out of conference games in March. The Prep claim that they aren’t ready to play St. John’s at the beginning of the season is bogus. Last year they played DeMatha, STM, Gilman, Blakefield, Haverford School and Gonzaga in March. Prep is butt hurt over missing out on some players and Speaks turning their offer down. An offer that included his coaching staff with jobs and admission of several of his best players. Nice try. |
For the record PVI would have declined as well as they were still involved in VISSA. I know they were not likely to win by the WCAC final was close in the third and into the fourth. |
WCAC has rules against playing after the championships. Needs to be played within a certain timeframe. The St. John’s FB team had to pull out of an ESPN game in Vegas after the season because it was outside the timeframe. Easy solution is to do what they have always done. Play in March. Be ready to play when the season starts. Lame to say they aren’t when these kids play lax all year round. |
To solve this dilemma I propose the WCAC and IAC merge into one league for all private schools lacrosse teams in the DMV. |
Not happening but actually having the conferences talk to each other and sanction an end of the year tournament would be better than having Maddox do it. Do the same in basketball, football, soccer, golf, baseball, and tennis. Let’s see how it shakes out. |
WCAC is a much more respected and well known conference than IAC, wouldn’t it be easier for Prep to just join the WCAC? I believe the process is straightforward. |
We know how that will shakeout. |
WCAC is more respected athletically because their members are allowed to give merit based scholarships i.e. athletic aid. The tuitions are also, for the most part, far below those of the IAC. The 2 haven’t completed on the same level for 30 years and it’s become worse with the recruiting bleeding into sports other than football and basketball. |
Wouldn’t be far. |
