DC is interested in applying to a couple liberal arts schools but does not have the stats for the top selective schools (3.5 GPA/1310 SAT). Any suggestions for schools to consider. DC would like something on the larger side (2,000 students or larger), near a larger type city with some culture and not uber/cut throat competitive.
Any thoughts? |
Denison is pretty great and not too far from Columbus. Not sure if the stats are there though. More details on the GPA would help. |

Don’t know where Marist is but the other 3 are in pretty remote locations. |
Dickinson is quite close to the state capital and city of 50,000, Harrisburg. |
| I don't know the intended major or budget but look into The College of New Jersey and St Mary's College of Maryland. |

"and St Mary's College of Maryland."
OOOPS, didn't catch the city part. NOT SMCM. |
Yeah, my DC went there and the kids are not making trips to Harrisburg to see culture. DC loved the school but it is not urban. |
OP said near a city not urban campus. And there is an art and museum scene in Harrisburg for those who are interested. Not saying it’s Paris but it’s something. |

| +1 to Denison--close enough to Columbus and with a culture that supports lots of internships. Kalamazoo College is in a small city if you're willing to go a bit further West to Michigan. Likewise Macalester is also a maybe, but tougher stats and even further West (St Paul, MN). DC would have more options if considered looking at smallest to mid-sized universities. |
Agree, but not sure OP's DC has the stats for it. Ohio Wesleyan is similarly close to Columbus and easier to get into. |
