Richmond would be quite a reach.

Kalamazoo College is in a small city if you're willing to go a bit further West to Michigan. Likewise Macalester is also a maybe, but tougher stats and even further West (St Paul, MN). DC would have more options if considered looking at smallest to mid-sized universities.

Agree, but not sure OP's DC has the stats for it.

Ohio Wesleyan is similarly close to Columbus and easier to get into.

As with most SLACs admission will be (a lot) easier if DC is a DS not DD. If OP child is a son I think the stats are close - if DD Denison may be more of a reach.

Okay, I've heard of Elon. And Mount St Mary's, which unless you count Hagerstown is not near a city/culture (other than DC I suppose). But what the heck are the rest of those?

They are called SLACs

Killington, population 771, is a “larger” city?

Rutland is the 2nd largest city in VT but it’s no Burlington. There’s a movie theater and a mall but otherwise it’s pretty light on culture.

Richmond would be quite a reach.

Maybe, but at least it ticks all of OP's boxes (as do the others listed on the quoted post). Why people are posting names of tiny colleges in the middle of nowhere is beyond me.

Agreed. (I was the poster who said it was a reach.) I think people start reacting to different posts and lose sight of the original question.

Our DD has higher stats, but also seeks that rare bird of a LAC in or near a city and these were the ones that we thought were excellent schools that she feels confident she could get into. (Her top choices are Haverford/Swarthmore near Philly but those are reaches for anyone! )

Ohio: Denison (I don't think it's a stretch if GPA is uw--SAT scores are high for the school) and Case Western --in towns, but close to Columbus (pop 800K+)
MI: Kalamazoo -- within the city of Kalamazoo (pop 75k+) ( next to Western Michigan University). DD LOVED this school/city.
MN: Macalester (this would be a genuine reach)
NY: Skidmore (maybe a reach) Saratoga Springs pop 25K+

1310 SAT is below the average at Denison, which is 1330. My DC just graduated from there. OP's DC might have a chance for admission, but merit aid would be limited.

Where do you see that SAT average? Denison is the one school where I cannot find their common data set. The numbers colleges put on their "fast facts" often don't fully show the picture (like how many kids submit SAT scores, if there are spring admits who aren't counted etc) or what the average is (I just see the 25-75th percentile).
