| I got 11,250 steps yesterday which is higher than the 8000-9000 steps that I usually take in a day. Did you find yourself getting more steps in than usual on Halloween night? |
| Yup! 13,500 compared to 8500 on average. |
| Yes. 22,000 compared to my normal 12,000-13,000. |
| 22k instead of 15. And then I ate Swedish fish and ruined it. |
| Yes. 11k over my usual 6k. I didn't eat any candy either. I took one Almond Joy from my kid to eat at the end of the week. |
| 24k...average is more like 17k |
how do you get so many? Are you a runner or do you go for a lot of walks? |
| You guys seriously only ate one piece of candy last night?! |
Not pp, but it's not hard to get that many steps places where you walk a lot. Walk to work, walk to grocery store, drugstore, post office, etc, plus regular exercise (zumba class, kickboxing, etc). Running is more time efficient in terms of accumulating steps, but there are fewer steps in running a mile, vs, walking a mile. Your stride is longer, so running a mile may = 1500 steps, whereas walking a mile = 2000 steps. But obviously, not all steps are the same. I usually average between 15k-20k steps a day, sometime more. |
do you live in the city? I guess i am use to suburban life where we drive everywhere and there is no way I could walk to work (22 miles). Even when we were on vacation this summer and hiking a lot, according to my iphone- I don't have a fit bit which probably tracks better, 18K steps for me was just under 7 miles. The most I hit in a day there was 28K steps. I can't imagine getting that many miles in walking at home, unless i made it a point to go out for a walk every day. |
| 19K compared to typical 10-12K. Unfortunately I ate way more than 1 piece of candy... |
I do live in a city and don’t have a car so it’s pretty easy. I feel like I am always walking somewhere and always have to wear comfortable shoes! |
Yes, I live in the city. But even when I drive, it's easy to rack up steps. Don't circle parking lots to find a close space - save time and park faster/further, and use that time to walk a greater distance to a store. When you need to put something back, don't be the jerk that leaves it on a random shelf in a store - go and put it back in its place. Take the stairs. Don't just stand on an escalator - walk up it. There are many little ways you can increase steps that add up through the day. That said, not all steps are the same - walking 100 steps of stairs is far more efficient than walking 100 steps on a sidewalk. Running 100 steps and walking 100 steps are different. So a step goal is nice, but it's not the whole story. |
