Arlington Recreational Tournament

Hey all - just got an email from ASA saying that registration is still open for the Arlington Recreational Tournament the weekend before Thanksgiving. It's open to teams outside of Arlington; we've played in it the last couple of years, and it's pretty well run. Fun opportunity for non-travel teams to get some tournament experience!

See below:

Dear Rec Coaches:

The deadline to apply to the ART is this Sunday night, November 4th. The ART is our optional, end of the season tournament for REC teams. At the moment, we are looking for additional teams in all the 3rd to 8th grade age groups, but especially for 3rd grade girls, 5th grade boys, and 6th-8th grade teams of both genders.

Teams are guaranteed three games each, with awards for the Champions and Finalists. Games will be played on the Gunston and Williamsburg Middle School turf fields, meaning that the competition can take place regardless of rain or wet field conditions.

This is a great venue for teams to get additional playing time against new opponents. Of the teams thus far registered, only HALF are Arlington Soccer teams, with the rest coming from Loudoun, Maryland and DC. PLEASE look at the rules/information link here, and email Tournament Director Jerry Ellison here if you have any questions. Any net profits from the ART Tournament Fees go to support Rec Soccer financial aid, so it is for a good cause!

Does anyone in Arlington below U9 play Rec anymore?

It seems like there was a big push away from Rec. 6 travel teams per age group, DA teams and then the Developmental program (above Rec). We could no longer field our usual Rec indoor team because they allow 2 travel players---but every single kid of every ability on our former team was no playing Arlington travel.

Are there travel kids playing in this rec tournament? Is it the 2 team per rule?

U8 was full this fall for rec.

We moved to a new team as half the team we had for 3 years is playing travel for 2010 boys.
But rec alive and well this fall. I think more ADP players play rec still than travel players.

We had to cut our travel players from our rec team last year because they were getting burned out the previous year playing for both teams and weren't showing up, and we needed the roster space for girls who would actually come out to play. We got cut from 3 to 2 select players, so we kept 2 ADP players.

Plenty of kids are still in rec. at our level - 4th grade girls - there are still 4 divisions of 6-8 teams per division. Roster sizes are 11 girls for 7x7 format, so that's 250ish girls just at that age group.

My daughter plays rec because she loves her coach and the teammates she's known since K. She plays ADP because the level of commitment and talent is higher and there's more training. This comes out to 4 practices and 2 games per week, which is a lot, but it works ok for us.
