DA v ECNL playoffs

Anonymous
Girls DA and ECNL should have a joint playoff. Winner is the National Champion, since the two leagues are regarded as having the best talent. If the Champions league can do it professionally, certainly these two leagues can. It is a sure draw for top college coaches, sponsors like Nike, and national team scouts. If your league is truly better nationally, let's put it to the test.

Each league has its own playoff to find the top 4 teams for each age group. ECNL sends 4 teams, DA sends 4 teams. Two brackets of 4 teams, with 2 teams from each DA and ECNL in each bracket. Round robin play 3 games. Winner of each bracket advances to the National Championship game.

that doesnt address the issue thats real and more important. better individual soccer players are needed not winning teams.

I like the idea. Done rught, and funded by us soccer, it could draw alot of attention to the sport.

Why would DA US want to do it? They do not care about the ECNL and would like it to go away.

Yes, DA's main mission is to create a monopoly by destroying competing elite youth leagues.

There shouldn't be multiple competing leagues. There should be one league locally that funnels the best teams to the top with the opportunity for the best to compete regionally and then on the national level. All of these multiple leagues just end up spreading the talent thin.

This presumes a centralized multi-tiered open system in which teams are promoted to the higher level based on the merit (i.e., winning on the field), but the current system is a fragmented system with multiple closed leagues (by application only).

Or just pick your team based on coach, players, fit and opportunity and not worry about any of this nonsense.

I don't agree. The ECNL and DA offer different experiences and packages and there is room for both. Vive la difference. I am glad to have this choice.

And for the benefit of the national team levels the broader the talent base the more elite players come out over time. We want as many players as possible playing as long as possible.

Both leagues offer essentially the same package $10K+ per year for the privilege to play with miles and miles of travel.

Correct, merit trumps application.

Why does one need to go? So that you can have localized powerhouse teams? That does not benefit the country or the players.

The prohibitive cost and long distance travel do not benefit the players either. Even if you leave aside the ridiculous cost, l would submit that the long hours spent driving to New Jersey or flying to South Carolina could be spent better mastering your skills on your local field. And there are plenty of strong teams in the area that could play each other at a competitive level: FCV, McLean, MD Spirit, VA Spirit, Loudoun, Arlington, Bethesda, etc.

Deeper roster is for better training. Cant learn to execute higher level play without a talented team of kids to successfully execute the higher level play. A few motivated kids on a roster is not enough. Less dilution would help.
