Nutcracker Performances

Planning for a family visit - Does anyone know where there are Nutcracker performances besides Warner? That seems too pricey, especially with children. We would need a matinee performance. TIA.

We just got tickets to see the Nutcracker at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Arlington on Dec. 6th at 1:00. It's put on by the Center Dance Co. and you can get tickets on their website. We paid $16 for the kids and $20 for ourselves.

I bought yesterday and there were still a bunch of seats available.

Highly recommend the Maryland Youth Ballet performances in Rockville for kids. (For adults, not so much.)

I know the Olney community theater does it.

The Washington Ballet performance at the Warner is wonderful and if you can afford it, well worth the $. We always buy the cheapest seats ($29) and have always been able to see just fine.

I agree. If your children can sit quietly (maybe this isn't for youngest toddlers and babies), it is absolutely worth it. The Warner is an intimate space that can be very good for family performances. Dress up (just a little), make a day of it, and teach your children the habit of going to a real theater. Be sure to check out the holiday windows at Macy's on your way back to Metro.

Warner's seats only had $100. and up available. How do you get the more reasonable seats?

Try different dates. The cheap seats sell out very quickly. You might find more seats available if you visit the Warner box office rather than looking at Ticketmaster online...it's possible that some are reserved for online sale vs. some for box office sale. Good luck.

Warner tip: the lobby is way too small for the theatre capacity, so it's swamped at intermission. Buy snacks before the show starts and save them for intermission.

Next year, subscribe to their family series for more reasonable Nutcracker tickets and around 4 other great productions.

But how far away are you seated? My kids get restless if they can't "see".

I totally disagree about the performance at the Warner. The production was lovely, but the experience was AWFUL. People bring kids that are WAY too young to be expected to sit through a full length ballet performance and then don't leave when they start crying, jumping on chairs, whining, etc. Will NEVER go again.

I kind of agree about the Warner. The kids seated around us were REALLY unruly and it was hard to hear anything.
