Nutcracker Performances

00:29 and 10:03: if your kids are a little older, try the evening performances. Totally different vibe. The Washington Ballet's Nutcracker is one of the best in the country, so it would be a shame to avoid it because of some audience misbehavior during matinee performances.

I wish people would not take kids under, say, five to performances like the Washington Ballet's unless they have already demonstrated their ability to sit quietly through a full-length production. Why risk ruining the experience for someone else? There are plenty of family-friendly productions that allow young kids to practice their audience skills, and they will still have many many years to see a "real" Nutcracker after that. If it's the parents who really want to go to the Washington Ballet, why not make a date night of it and leave the kids at home?

AU's Greenberg Theater hosts the ballet company from Ballet Petite and they do a lovely, SHORT, for-children, by-children Nutcracker!
