| My oldest will be entering pre-K3 next August, but I'm not thrilled with our IB school (plus, it's not walkable). I love the community, but it feels like commuting to some Ward 5 charters would be horrendous. Ft Lincoln parents, where did you end up sending your kids? Are there any DCPS or DC charters that I should consider, given the proximity of our neighborhood? |
Most families I know (and my DCs) head down to Capitol Hill each day — takes about 20 minutes to drop at the schools there — PK3 might be hard to find a spot but make sure to put AT Lincoln Park, Payne and JO which all have good programs. Good Luck!

| In the meantime join others that want a new elementary school built within the Ft. Lincoln boundaries. Include an indoor pool. |
What about the present; that is the question. |
Alternatively, work with your neighbors to support the school that already exists. I understand the desire for a walkable school, but when your neighborhood school is underenrolled, the solution is not to build a new school. It's to strengthen the existing one. |
| We live In Woodridge and parents we know send their kids to DC Bilingual, Langdon, Inspired Teaching, Christian Family Montessori (private), Stokes, YuYing, Barnard, and SWS. |
| Commuting from Ft. Lincoln to Ward 5 charters including Stokes, Lee, Inspired Teaching, Yu Ying, Shining Stars, etc. is no different than commuting through the Hill to the schools mentioned above. |
| John Burroughs is an excellent option for Preschool and PreK if you don’t get into any charters. I did one year there and my sons teacher was fantastic! She was a lot better than the past 2 teachers he’s had at our current charter. However, the school does lack diversity which wasn’t a real problem but language was important too. I encourage you to visit, you will be surprised. The principal didn’t talk much when I saw him at a community event but he was there. Check out Burroughs. |
Thanks! Adding Burroughs to my list. |
| We live in Ft Lincoln and send our elementary kids to Ward 5 charter. We went with a charter for middle school that is near our work. |
| Check out Langley. We have families from your area and it is easier to get into than Burroughs. |
Do you mind sharing which charter? |
| Two Rivers Young, it is a 12-18 minute drive depending on traffic. Usually about 15. |
Sure - our nearby elementary is Stokes. |
| You could also consider Stokes' new East End campus, which is about a 20 minute drive from Ft. Lincoln. |
