So outsted Dunbar Principal who was fired for altering thousands of records is immediately given a position as the head of a charter school. Right in DC where he was publicly fired!!!
Where’s the story about how little regard is given to the poor black neediest kids in DC? This wouldn’t have happened anywhere else. Why is it more important to keep adults employed in the nation’s capital’s schools than it is to ensure our kids have leaders who are honest and have integrity? This is why we keep getting stories out of DC’s public and charter schools like the one about Roosevelt’s principal involving the police in a sexual assault for the sole purpose of “embarrassing her (the victm’s) ass” with a long, drawn out email. A principal publicly (or not) fired from a suburban school district for ethical reasons would have his license revoked. If lucky, he’d be able to move to another time zone, reinvent himself and start over. But he sure as hell wouldn’t get another job in that same town. Truth is, there’s been more than enough valid complaints and suits brought against Principal Zaki during his tenure to call his character and ability to lead into question. Pinder and DCPS had more than enough cause to fire him. But it took the media and public embarrassment to get him out of DCPS. What’s he doing at Maya Angelou and what’s with them that they’d hire exposed so publicly? The kids of DC deserve better from those entrusted with their care. |
You should ask these questions of the school that hired him. Let’s be honest, there are several DCPS schools where this guy would never be hired. There are many children in DC who will never encounter a substandard education. Maya Angelou students are not among that group. |
Your last statement is sadly true. And that’s why I’m outraged. Those kids are the most vulnerable. Who knows what the hell hes over there getting away with. In addition to changing records, there was the newspaper article about him mishandling a student’s sexual assault. And I think many DCPS schools would’ve hired him. In fact, they would’ve kept him had it not been for the media. |
| OP, they obviously know who they hired. Stop the madness and your faux outrage. Leave the man alone and stop being a stalker. DCPS and it’s charter elk will always have scandals i.e. Antwan Wilson who is still in DC. If you’re really that outraged run for office in DC. #Put-up or shut up |
| Did he do a good job as principal otherwise? Must he be buried because of a mistake in judgment? Does he have something to offer that can inspire kids? He’s gotten a second chance so let’s hope he makes a difference. |
Yes, they do know who they hired. And that’s the problem. No one would’ve ever hired him in a white wealthy district. And do you really have to live in DC and run for office there to care about what happens to poor black kids? It is an outrage. The fact that we’re okay with this (yawn...That’s just the way it will always be for the darkies) is appalling. Also, I didn’t know about Eilson but I hope he’s not leading kids. |
*Wilson* |
No, he didn’t do a good job otherwise, obviously. Why do we justify giving the poorest, most vulnerable kids just anything? No one would be that cavalier about finding a head for a wealthy white prep school. Sidwell nor Georgetown Prep would ponder if HE-the adult-had learned a lesson. They’d wonder only which adult has proven to have integrity and right by kids. |
david Pinder, Michelle Rhee, the list is endless! |
David Pinder's name keeps popping up in these stories about rogue principals. In every single story about DCPS corruption his name is mentioned as one of the people contacted who did nothing before the complainant went to the press. His day has to be coming soon. I don't know the man, but I've seen his name in every single one of those stories. |
| I just googled Antwan Wilson. Seems he's some type of educational consultant now (which many in education joke that essentially means he has no job). I see no issue with this new career path as it's not the same as putting him in a school building in charge of the care of students-a job that Zaki failed at miserably before taking on the exact same role at another school. I'm not saying the man doesn't deserve to ever work again, but to become a school head after showing a repeated lack of integrity in fulfilling this role is horrible. |

I had heard about the Dunbar principal - as well as former Ballou HS principal Dr. Yetunde Reeves now leading Cesar Chavez Middle School: http://www.chavezschools.org/school-leadership/
I'm currently looking into grade inflation allegations and complaints at Public Charter Schools - different than the ones mentioned here. |

I can’t believe they included in her biography that every student was accepted at college (under her leadership at Ballou). Surely, they know that information was based on lies and manipulation. I’m convinced those schools want people like that who will manipulate data to make them look good. Such a shame charter schools in DC are a dumping ground for terrible principals. |
First, we’re talking about SCHOOLS and CHILDREN! No one would turn a blind eye while this happened in predominantly white schools. |
