| This seems like an easy piece of information to gather, but googling is failing. Assuming my daughter lotteries in to a DCPS pk3 spot next fall, what hours will she be in school? Does it vary by school? We live by Maury in Capitol Hill but I understand we have a snowballs chance in hell of sending her there! |
| It varies by school. Usually 8 or 8:15-ish, until 3:15-3:30ish, and then aftercare until 6 or 6:30. Some schools have before-care starting at 7. Some schools have a wider range of time in which to pick up your child so that everyone's not trying to park at the same time. |
| It's the same hours as the rest of the school. |
| Do they nap there? Does everyone leave their child the whole time or do some pickup early? |
| Same hours as rest of school. At least in my kids' school there was a nap. No one picked up early. This isn't day care. If you want day care, stay in day care. |
| I teach Pre-K 3. Hours are 8-3:15. Early pickups are not allowed. Before care is 7-8; after care is 3:15-6. Rest time from 1:00-2:30. |
| Montessori schools sometimes have different early pickup rules, and some schools will give you a little flexibility at the beginning of the year, if your child is especially young, but it's under the radar. Our DD started as a September birthday and sometimes I would pick her up before nap on a Wednesday or Thursday with some flimsy excuse so that she could nap for a longer time at home. |
Since there are only 2 DCPS Montessori schools, this may not be particularly relevant to the OP. CHML does stagger the start at the beginning of the year, and your child may not start until a week or 2 after the official first day of school. Ask about it at an open house if you are applying and decide if you can live with it. Otherwise as the teacher above stated, all DCPS Pk3 hours are standardized. Charter start times and end times vary quite a bit. |
| DCPS schools start at 8:45, but schools allow you to drop off at 8:15. Schools end at 3:15, latest pickup without aftercare is 3:30. Most aftercare goes until 6 pm |
Not all schools have the early drop-off and late pick-up that you mention. |
| At our DCPS, for non-beforecare kids doors open at 8 and they have to be with a parent or guardian until 8:20. The school day starts at 8:45 and ends at 3:15. Aftercare goes until 6. PK3 follows the same hours as the rest of the school. |
She didn’t say all that you clown, why be nasty? All she did was ask about hours. People like you are so annoying |
At some schools, the PK times are shifted earlier by about 10-15 minutes, I think so that parents with kids in both PK and higher grades can do pickup. |
|
As people said, PK hours are the same as the school.
The school hours are explained on the school's website (copied below). Official school hours are 8:40-3:15. No (regular) early pickup. PK3 does have quiet time/naps; call the school if you want details. Note that the information about location is specific to this year, when Maury is at Eliot Hine during their renovation. https://mauryelementary.com/facts/ Daily Schedule 7:15 AM Polite Piggy’s opens for before care. 8:15 AM School opens for breakfast. PK3/PK4 students report to the the early childhood breakfast room in Trailer C; Kindergarten–Grade 5 students report to multipurpose room. 8:40 AM Bell rings; the school day begins. Kindergarten–Grade 5 classroom teachers escort their students from the playground or multipurpose room. Instruction begins. Students arriving after 8:55 AM must report to the security desk/office for a “tardy slip” before going to the classroom. Midday Recess/Lunch (see schedules) 3:15 PM Bell rings; students are dismissed. Polite Piggy’s aftercare and afterschool activities begin. 6:00 PM Polite Piggy’s closes. 6:30 PM School closes. (Please note that the building is available for meetings from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Monday–Friday, by arrangement with the main office.) |
Uhm, try reading the rest of the thread where someone absolutely did ask these questions before being so nasty in your response. |
