| Has anyone in this area been notified either by their school or the NMSC about being commended scholar? I know the semi-finalists have been notified but what about commended scholars? DD is expecting it and wants to put it on her college app and submit the app soon. |
| Commended cutoff is 212 - I wouldn't hold up an application to include that, as it is really meaningless. They're far more interested in her SAT/ACT scores than some PSAT she took early in junior year. it truly won't make any difference in whether she gets in or not |
| I don’t think you get notified. Just check the index on your kid’s College Board account. If it’s at least 212, then commended (unless of course you hit semifinalist). My DC is also commended. It’s nice to add to apps. |
| DC was commended and he got a note to go to his counselor and his counselor gave him a certificate. Very low key. There were 11 in his class that received NMF status and their names were announced to the school and the press. I don’t know if there was a ceremony for them. |
| Not a big deal |
| FWIW, yesterday my private high school in PA posted a pic on the facebook page of semi-finalist and commended students. |
At our large NOVA secondary school, you get your senior photo plastered by the front of the school - semifinalist & commended alike. It’s a big deal. |
Just because the school makes it a big deal, that it is a bid deal for admissions. To be commended is really not a big deal. Semi finalist or finalist is a big deal. Our top private only mentions the finalists. |
Don't be rude to these children. It is a big deal. |
|
It means you’re in the top 50,000 of kids who took a standardized test in fall of junior year.
Is that nice? Sure. Does it in any way impact college admission at a selective school? In no way. It’s the PRACTICE TEST for the test that schools actually care about |
Not being rude, these are the facts. |
Well lah di dah.
|
| The high school is suppose to tell you. Some are better than others. You can call to confirm. |
| OP here. Nobody is wanting anyone to make a big deal out of this. It's not like dd wants her name or photo flashed in the local paper or anything. She wants to put it in her college app but feels uncomfortable doing it without some official confirmation that she can do it. She doesn't have a whole lot of stuff to put down for honors/awards section in her application except honor soc and other sort of lame stuff. |
Because it is not a big deal, no one is going to check. Just put it down if u want to. It won’t tip admissions either way. Her scores and subject test scores would have more weight if not a test optional school. |
