| Can't matter much. Your kid's SAT scores will either be consistent with them, or not. |
Not relevant to OP's question. OP, yes our school has informed the students and posted something to the school community about it. |
| OP call the school and ask them to confirm it (they should know). Ask them if she will get a letter or email confirming it. I agree with PPs that commended is not as prestigious as semi finalist but it would be nice to add it to her award section |
| My kid was a commended scholar. It was a nice award to list, for sure. Ultimately, her actual SAT score didn't quite match the PSAT, however, and it appears that that was all that mattered. She did fine on the college admissions front, but didn't get in anywhere where her actual SAT didn't measure up. |
| No college admissions rep in the world is going to have her attitude towards an application changed in the slightest based on whether 2 lines of the Awards section are filled, or if the third line is filled with National Merit Commended Scholar. Its presence adds nothing and its absence detracts nothing. |
OP, by all means list it! Every other kid who was commended will list it, and it certainly can't hurt. Don't listen to the naysayers here. |
I was a commended student forever and an age ago so this could be out of date. Last year I helped my mom move out of her house; she had all these old mementos of my childhood, including a letter from the PSAT/NMSQAT ppl informing me of my commended status. If your kid is unsure of her status maybe she should check with them bc they likely would have sent something. |
+1. The naysayers are the ppl who didnt get it. |
| Op should list it. It won’t do any harm. But it won’t do much good either. Some schools wave app fee for comm and nmsf kids |
