Please sign or disseminate if you are a supporter of building communities through investing in neighborhood schools.

You may refer to Cambridge MA for an example of failed school system following universal integration and lottery-based school assignments.

The BoE will be in session starting this afternoon. Individual emails sent to the Boss before 12 pm will be much more effective than a petition at this point...

Your post is reactionary. The issue before the school board is not about long distance bussing.

Creating petitions about something that isn't the issue at being debated is muckraking.

But there is nothing of the sort in the proposed policy change. So it's irrelevant. Nobody is proposing to get rid of neighborhood schools or to dismantle communities.

No, muckraking is a good thing!

muckrake: : to search out and publicly expose real or apparent misconduct of a prominent individual or business

This isn't muckracking, this is disinformation.

disinformation: : false information deliberately and often covertly spread (as by the planting of rumors) in order to influence public opinion or obscure the truth

It will be the natural consequence of school assignments designed to overcome housing patterns.

+1 The OP of the other thread, and this OP (if they aren't the same person) are both spreading misinformation for the purpose of inflaming public opinion about a option that isn't even being discussed (long distance bussing).

Weighing demographic characteristics slightly more than geographic proximity, stability of school assignments, and facility utilization, rather than equally as they currently do, will inevitably and naturally lead to lottery-based school assignments and busing kindergartners across the county? You don't say.

Did they say demographics would be the PRIMARY factor or just one factor?

I am the OP of the previous "Alert" thread about busing.

Thanks, I just signed the petition.

It's already one of four factors. The new language would elevate demographic factors slightly above the other three.
