Interesting read. My college daughter agrees this is a growing trend at her school.

| You and your DD both need hobbies. |
| “It is a privilege to not have to worry about which pronoun someone is going to use for you.” ... We need to put a stop to this dangerous nonsense NOW. How is it so many people are losing their minds and common sense? |
THIS is your priority? Not stopping police shootings of unarmed minorities? But the menace of preferred pronouns? |
|
“Interesting read?” Come on, OP. At least have the guts to plant your flag in the sand. This blog has a very clear bias against trans folks.
From the About from this blog: “4thWaveNow was started by the mother of a teenage girl who suddenly announced she was a “trans man” after a few weeks of total immersion in YouTube transition vlogs. (The daughter has since desisted from identifying as transgender.) After much research and fruitless searching for an alternative online viewpoint, this mom began writing about her deepening skepticism of the ever-accelerating medical and media fascination with the phenomenon of “transgender children.” |

OK, that opinion piece was all over the place, concepts united only in hating transgender people.
I'm old enough that when I was in college, nobody came out as gay until they got to college. That doesn't mean college and social groups turned them gay. It just means they felt comfortable enough to be themselves. Sadly, for many that meant away from disapproving family. Same thing with transgender people now. And it's a pain to learn which pronouns to use? I guess for people who find it a pain to learn how to pronounce unfamiliar ethnic names....same mindset -- AKA self-centered. |

Being transgender isn’t a trend.
Recognizing that trans people deserve the same respect afforded to others might be new to you, but it’s natural to most of us. |
I agree. But there is also a legitimate concern that, in an effort to show support and not in any way question someone announcing they are trans, people are moving way too quickly to make life altering medical decisions (often at a young age) without taking the time and professional support to examine whether something other than actually being trans is causing the desire to transition. And a non-nominal of people have determined they are not trans, often after taking irrevocable medical steps. There was a very long and balanced article from the Atlantic (hardly a conservative rag) on this issue not that long ago. |
| The only hard issue in trans gender ethics is whether/how pre-adolescent children transition. Other than that MYOB. |
| To the extend people are comfotable coming out as narcissistic navel gazers who are making shit up? It’s all BS. You can be gay, straight, bi, GNC whatever but you can’t “be” a pick-your-own sex. This is not Olive GatdenZ |
|
It's definitely a trend. It's being promoted heavily by the powerful gay lobby, which lost its major fundraising hook when the Supreme Court approved gay marriage.
There is little scientific evidence to support the idea that humans can change genders but whatever.... |
How about the 72,000 dead Americans per year of drug overdoses? |
| NP here. My dd is a freshman and her roommate is transgender (born female, now a male). While my dd has zero issue with someone being transgender, it has been an adjustment and not at all what she expected for a roommate situation. She won’t request a change for fear of seeming discriminatory, but she’s not fully comfortable living with a guy. I feel that colleges still have work to do in this area in making sure that everyone feels comfortable with their living situation. |
But...PRONOUNS!!! Please. Stop. The. Madness. |
I feel sorry for your daughter. She should not have been put in this situation. I understand she doesn’t want to appear discriminatory, but if it were me, I would request a change. Not because it is a “guy,” but because I would worry about the mental stability of this person. Seems to me that a person who cannot make up their mind what they “are” has issues. |
