any info on whether kids can get the H1N1 vaccine while on antibiotics?

I googled it but can't seem to find an answer. My kids are on amoxicillin for respiratory infections. My peds office has had a busy signal all morning!! I will of course confirm with them, but if anyone knows any info, that would be great.

If your child's doctor's office has a triage nurse or nurse line I bet they could answer this for you accurately.

Antibiotics kill bacteria, not virus, which is why you cannot treat the flu with antibiotics. Of course if your kids have infections they shouldn't have the vax.

Definitely talk to your dr about this.

CDC.gov- states that unless it is a moderate/severe infection- it is okay to get the vaccine.

I'm awaiting this answer too. My daughter is set to get it at school but she is on amoxicilin for strep. I have so far learned that if the child has asthma or has weezed in the past 6 months they cannot get the liquid form, it has to be a shot....

DS is scheduled to get his second shot this weekend but is on antibiotics for an ear infection. Can he still get the vax?

My son got the H1N1 vaccine last week at the same dr appt where they diagnosed a mild ear infection and prescribed antibiotics. So it should be ok.

You need your physician's advice. It depends on the illness.

Our son of 14 months has spent 4 days in hosiptal. He had taken amoxicilin due to an ear infection. 2 weeks later he received the H1N1 vaccine. A week after that he received amoxicilin again due to another ear infection. 1 week after starting the 2nd round of antibiotics, he ended up in the hosiptal with hi temperature and a rash that ended up covering his whole body as well as swollen hands and feet. 4 days later and his temperature and all other vitals are normal and he may be coming home today. Unfortunately, no one can tell us what the cause is....but somehow they are dismissing any connections to the vaccine. Lab results will be provided later today....but doctors informed us that "we may never know for sure" They claim he never had any of the H1N1 symptoms and from what I can tell, I have to agree. (personally I do have a feeling that the combination of vaccine and amoxilian is not good....but I'm not a doctor)

Maybe allergic to the second antibiotic? OR one of the antibiotics in the vaccine?

Well I hope so because mine is on amoxicillian and she got a shot yesterday. I didn't even think twice about it

Father of 14 month boy: well, my son was released from the hospital today. rash and fever done. Still a mystery. Doctors are going to have a meeting with the allergy/immunology team tomorrow. I guess they are trying to figure out if our son is allergic to Amoxicillian.
A comment that was made to my wife, is that she went too quickly to to doctor to have the ear infection treated. She was advised that she should have waited 3 days. In a nutshell, they believe our son was given too much antibiotics in such a short time. Somehow I think they are blaming us for what had happened.

At the end of the day, our son is his "Spoiled Rotten" self again and we love to have him healthy again. Our son faught the "virus or reaction" by himself. He was given no medication, no pain killers or anything other than liquids. He's a strong boy and we are blessed.

I am the OP and just saw this thread come up again. Our doc said it was fine if they had no fever. So they both got the shots (they are 3.5 and 1.5) and now have had their second dose as well. No reactions at all. Glad to have this behind me and glad they are healthy.
