After YuYing

Anonymous
DS just started PK4 at YuYing. We are considering other options however (ie private schools) as we are unsure about the strength of the middle school and high school options after YuYing elementary.

Any perspective from parents in a similar situation?

If you are serious about sticking with mandarin through high school then I suggest that you transfer to MCPS. They do mandarin very well and require fluency. However, if you just want Yu Ying for pre-k, then you should be fine. I’d suggest speaking directly with the admissions office or hiring a private school consultant for inside information.

You are three days into PK4. Do you need to worry about Middle school now?

I'm not sure if you're just idly wondering or if you're truly worried about middle school options, but if the latter, you have plenty of time. I think there will be other viable middle school options by then besides Deal and Hardy, and DCI will also have worked out more of the kinks.

Hello, DCUM. Our only child was born with YY sibling preference but we're thinking about Cantonese...

If you're serious about running with Mandarin in ES, I suggest you transfer to MCPS for K. Mandarin at YY mainly works to screen out poor children. The vast majority of YY parents couldn't tell Mandarin from any other dialect. Did I mention dialect? Oh my god, I've revealed that I'm a CANTONESE SPEAKING TROLL who actually knows something about Chinese culture.

These YY threads are the best.

OP if you want serious responses I would suggest taking this to the Yu Ying parent list serve or to individual parents/families at YY. The answers you are going to get here are beyond predictable and are unlikely to be helpful.

Why would the OP take this to a Yu Ying thread? The parents of those kids are her child’s competitors.

No, the problem is they are helpful. YY listserv merely declares DCI to be a bastion of language fluency, academic challenge and the font of knowledge for teens. It isn't.

Yu Ying posters are taking too many pills. Delusion is a hell of a drug. How can DCI be language fluent when it just opened?

OP here... thanks. That is a better idea
