| Langdon’s job was to treat Becca’s UIT vs figure out how she got the UTI. |
That's what he did... |
Yes but a PP is getting mad that Langdon didn't try to figure out how she got it and then address whatever problem the explanation might reveal, which is a ridiculous exception of an ER doctor. His best option was exactly what he did, which was diagnose and treat her physical issue and then suggest her caregiver speak to her to address any additional issues. Langdon did nothing wrong there, everything by the book. |
I agree with this Santos and Garcia are the thing. But at the end of season 1 just rewatched, Santos emphasized to Whitaker that she had a spare room *and* bathroom. Which is just annoyingly sloppy unless I missed something. Still love the show of course, overanalyzing prime time TV is not really the best idea. |
How do people know that Langdon didn't discuss how she got the UTI with Becca. He apparently went over potential causes, I just assumed she would have blurted out that the sex with her boyfriend was likely the cause. |
ahh thanks for explaining. |
| Regarding the cancer patient, I think because she is so close to dying, they decided to keep her where she is so as not to cause even more disruption. They would need to arrange round-the-clock care that is qualified to dispense morphine if she were to go back home, and they likely don’t have time for that. Similar thing happened to my mom. We were initially going to look for a nursing facility for her to be transferred to, but then the decision was made to keep her at the hospital because she needed the morphine and her time was extremely limited (as in, just a few days). It was the best decision since it kept disruptions to a minimum - and she received the comfort care she needed in the end. |
She didn’t want to go home. They were waiting for a bed to open up that they could admit her to, but her pain and exhaustion became too much so she ended up dying in the ER. |
She hasn’t died yet. The last shot was McKay administering the meds but that’s all we saw. |

A few thoughts - just watched the most recent episode.
Whoever called the sexual relationship for Mel’s sister- you get a prize! Why wasn’t Mel’s very first question- are you using protection? Why would Garcia ever date Santos? An obviously damaged much younger woman at a way lower rank, medicine wise? Oh wait- I literally just realized that that is what a$$hole men do the world over. Haha The idea that an ER doc and a med student (?!) would be in the room for the long time dying woman’s final moments seems not likely. They would leave and let the damn woman die in as much peace as is possible in a busy ER. Teen son not wanting to go in there? Oof- all the feels from me. So sad. So sadly not uncommon. Teen boys lose their moms to cancer all the time. Sucks. Mel saying she doesn’t have money to pay the lawyer, when her rep says all the bluster in the deposition was about squeezing more $$ out? Cmon! She is supposed to be on the spectrum, not stupid. I was irritated by that. I love the old battleaxe nurse they brought back. That’s a good storyline. Duke will have… inoperable cancer? And then Robby will…? Over the top foreshadowing of a crash when he tells Robby that he wouldn’t make that drive after a 12 hour shift NGL, I did think less of … can’t remember her name, the doctor who had the panic attack about her mom an hee internship applications. Get it together! I think I’m going to hold off this Thursday so I can at least watch two episodes back to back. They are so short! |
Garcia is pretty on the rare occasion when she smiles but o don’t think Santos is the least bit attractive. |
+1 plus Santos’ attitude makes her ugly. |
Protection doesn't stop a UTI, you need to pee after sex. Garcia and Santos aren't dating, they're eating ramen in bed after sex. It's not weird that two doctors are there, they aren't waiting with her, just giving her the morphine. |
If you skip this week then you're going to have to skip this thread, or you'll get spoilers! |
It's both. Mel is worried about Becca and the potential consequences of her being sexually active, and also I think she is jealous/resentful that so much of her time goes to caring for Becca and this enables Becca to have a relationship and feel fulfilled while Mel is just stressed and probably pretty freaking lonely a lot of the time (between being ND and being the primary caregiver to an ID adult and having an incredibly demanding job). I will also note that being a parent caring for an intellectually disabled adult parent would be fundamentally different from being a sibling doing the same. Still hard, but different. As a parent, caring for your kids is a job you take on when they are young and, ideally, willingly. You don't always realize how long that job and last and that's especially true for a kid with IDs -- it can be really hard to realize that your child is never going to be as independent as one without disabilities. But if you became a caregiver to a sibling because of their ID and the death of your parents, I'm sorry, that is WAY harder. It's not a choice. You'd be trying to grieve your own parents while also take care of your sibling, it means taking on a serious caretaking role at a very young age before you've really even had a chance to lead your own life at all. That's incredibly rough and it's not something Mel signed up for and yes it's probably going to lead to resentment and jealousy especially because she grew up viewing her sister as a peer and now she's a dependent. And who takes care of Mel? Her own parents are dead and she has no other siblings. It's just brutal, her situation deserves a lot of empathy. |
