Ideas for dream vacation with extended family

Disney World (maybe not the whole time, or not going to the parks every day...could add some time at the beach to relax after).

Do you like cities? Beaches? mountains? hot weather or cold? horseback riding and other outdoor things? museums? where is everyone coming from? what time of year are you going? Lots to consider.

The only thing worse than a dream vacation with extended family is a dream vacation to Disney with extended family. Seriously my idea of hell .

We did this. A week on a small boat Galapagos cruise (just us and about 10 other people). It was amazing.

DH and I had an 8-month-old at the time, and a 3yo, so some days one of us stayed back from the planned activity with the baby. I have to say, breastfeeding with a cover while sitting on the deck watching Old Faithful was not so bad, as far as baby-limited-vacationing goes. And we were able to do plenty of things with everyone, including a wonderful boat ride on one of the big lakes.

You’ll have to book that trip at least a couple of years ahead, and good luck getting enough rooms for all those people!

Well, my mom booked our trip one year in advance, and it involved getting five rooms at the Old Faithful Inn, but feel free to stomp all over this when you haven’t actually lived it.

When was this? I was just at the old faithful inn last month and apparently it’s now nearly impossible to get rooms and tour groups book them 4-5 years out.

Rooms are released each May/June for the following year. This year it was at midnight Mountain time, so by the time I got up at 6 am one of my nights wasn't available in the room I wanted. But there was plenty of overall availability on that day. If you want 5 rooms at OFI it is certainly doable on that first day rooms are released.

Exactly this. I’m the PP whose mom secured rooms one year in advance. She and my dad were on cell phones and the land line starting five minutes before the times released, and booked no problem. She may have gotten priority because two of the rooms had to be handicapped-accessible, and she informed them up front that she had documentation to prove the need, but still. Five rooms. This was three years ago.
