Loudoun County School Board meeting descends into absolute chaos

The way they are trying to go about this is not acceptable. While I don’t agree with their point of view I can listen and participate in civil discourse. Disrupting a meeting like this and becoming belligerent is not ok.

They are freaking out that their children will learn about the role systemic racism has played in our nation’s history.

That is not true.

Loudon is planning to teach children of different skin color to hate each other through a new curriculum/training based on Critical Race Theory (CRT).

This is certainly a very involved “Loudon” County parent and not at all an ignorant right wing news puppet.

Nobody is trying to teach children of different skin colors to hate each other in a school curriculum. I'll grant you there might be parents who teach that to their children at home but you are delusional and not so bright if you believe any school curriculum wants children to hate each other for any reason. You might want to try to get a grip on reality and stop drinking the conservative kool aid.

DP. We were able to see classes this past year. We could watch our kids' virtual classes and what was taught. And yes, there were some trial classes where the teaching was that White people are oppressors and colonizers.

Teachers may not intend to divide the students against each other. But that's the effect.

This is another poster with no children...

? only a racist wouldn't want their kids to be taught about actual history and the part racism played in it. I suppose you want history classes to teach that the Civil War was purely about state's rights and had nothing to do with slavery and that confederate soldiers were actually patriots rather than traitors.

NP. The vast majority of school districts have, for decades and decades, appropriately included the history of racism in their curricula. Acting like they haven’t isn’t a smart take.

Woo boy. The fact that all of us collectively learned about the Tulsa race riot in the last year is just one of MANY instances that clearly demonstrates that there is a large amount of this extremely relevant history that hasn't been taught. But also, as many have said, these lunatics are screaming about stuff that isn't actually happening.

I learned about it in school over 30 years ago.

well, I didn't, and neither did Trump, apparently.

What do the white southern school districts teach about segregation, civil war and Jim crow laws? I'm genuinely asking. I know a middle aged woman who grew up in the south, where it was all white, and she told me that they teach a skewed version of all of this. She didn't get it until she went off to college outside that area. I grew up out west.

Guessing that the vast majority of “white southern school districts” properly teach about all those items.

Lol such innocence. Yes it is appropriate to learn sex education at 14/15.
I went to high school in the 80s. I had 9th grader friends who did experience at this age with BJs. Wake up. I’m sure consent etc is covered. They are not telling them to get out there and give them.

Sorry, I don't agree with you. While your attitudes and values may be on the liberal fringe, and that's fine for you, it's not appropriate to impose those values on people with more traditional values. If liberal parents want their kids taught that kind of stuff, they can take it up at home.

No one is making your child read that text. Having a 200+ book approved with a couple salacious paragraphs (100 page apart) is in no way pornographic.

Watch the brief video in the very first post in this DCUM thread:

It is not sex ed. It is not blow jobs.

If you don't want your child to recover sex Ed then you should homeschool them and hope they can't look up porn on their phones like most over sheltered kids

Sex ed is NOT the controversy here!

^^ the controversy is CRT + the violent books taught + parents groups compiling a “hit list” of any parent who resists teaching CRT.

DP.
I view this a little differently. The biological aspect of sex ed is fine to teach in school....but if you want your kid to learn about BJs - you can teach that at home. That does not belong in the classroom.

I’m very curious about the context for this. Care to share?
