Mary seems just like more of the same. Nothing really differentiating about her.

That's my perspective too! I think Dr. Duran seems like he could be great over the long term. I think the middle management (especially Loft) has failed on several key issues and Miranda would press them WAY WAY WAY more than the current SB. Frankly, a lot of my teacher friends agree about Loft. That's why I feel like it's even more dire to elect Miranda - I don't want to lose the amazing teachers and staff that APS has!!!!

APS's SB (and Arlington's County Board) would benefit from a reality check. Voting Miranda in would send a message that they (leadership) let our kids down this year.

Yes, agree. I am not in APE or any of the various Facebook groups so I don’t really know about all the drama, but my teacher friends think Miranda is better, and I agree with pretty much everything she says so I voted for her. Really hope she can move things on the right direction, we certainly do not need more of the same.

I decided to sit this race out. Both Turner and Kadera were complicit in the vitriol that was spewed by our community over the past year. I just can't support either of them.

I find it hilarious that people play the meme game. Have nothing more intelligent to say? I give picture books to toddlers. This is the discourse that pushes people away from your cause.

Do you know what complicit means? Because you are protesting too much. Mary is just as much of a whack job as Miranda. And I'll say it over and over again.

Her supporters show it everyday in DCUM and AEM.

Amen. Miranda Turner is going to win because Kadera's supporters shot themselves in the foot with their feigned righteousness.

And APS will get what they deserve. More dysfunction.

Exactly! All of the teachers I know are voting for Miranda. Their jobs would have been easier this spring to be back in school 4-5 days. Miranda fought for that, Mary didn’t. Mary said 2 days was fine. I was talking with friends yesterday about voting. One friend pulled one of her kids for private at the semester mark and two of her kids stayed in APS. Said, “Speaking as someone who has one child in school 5 days a week, it is glorious. Even if my older kids started 4-5 days a week now for a month, it would make a huge difference.” Everyone in the group I was chatting with had already voted for Miranda.

The teacher I know who was screamed & cursed at by an angry APE dad on Teams - during class - probably would NOT vote for APE/Turner. But she doesn’t live in Arlington so she won’t get a voice.

Sounds like that dad was inappropriate, at the end of his rope or a combination of both. Miranda did not yell at teachers. She does not control what all members of APE do, just as Mary didn’t control the McKinley PTA mom that screamed at the school board.

The teachers I know that reside in Arlington and can vote are voting for Miranda.

I’m an APS teacher and have a wide circle of APS teacher friends. No one I know is thinking about voting for Miranda. We think of her as one of the crazy APE people from the Facebook group and the ones screaming about lazy teachers and unions at the board meetings (APS does not have a majority union).

+1 Even if Miranda didn't scream at teachers herself, she chose to associate with and even led the group that did. Teachers did not forget how Miranda and her friends treated them. As disposable servants.

So by the same logic, we should associate Mary Kadera with the twitter doxxer, because that person is a Kadera supporter.

That was the day the decision came out about (lack of) summer school and a statement on that would’ve been much better. I was disappointed. It reminded me of the FOIA communication.

Whoever wins will probably regret it, dealing with all of us APS folk. Think it will be a close race, do they release the voting results, or just say who won?

I do know what complicit means and clearly you don't.

Miranda and Mary are "complicit" or "whack jobs" because of what random (some anonymous) people people are posting on AEM or DCUM? Please explain that "logic" there.

My "cause" is calling out people who make dumb statements on DCUM.

I'm not a "Kadera supporter" but I am anti-APE because of all of the teacher bullying and tantrums over opening. And the ridiculous, irrational "data" and "science" claims.

+1 for this right here! Also, this thread has reached peak stupidity. I'm embarrassed for all of you that support the dumb voting conspiracy theory. Get a life.

They usually release the vote totals with the results. Last time I think 2-3K people voted. Will be interesting to see if the online total is much higher. I am guessing 10K people vote. Any other guesses?

I really can't tell how close it is going to be. I am voting for Miranda Turner, personally. But people are so split on this year. To me, it's a no-brainer, as Mary is an establishment APS candidate, and I'm very unhappy with APS right now.

Miranda is a LEADER of APE. So yes I think it's more than fair to associate Miranda with the APE group, its actions and its views. She chose to lead them and to be an active, vocal, very visible part of this group, so clearly she is very comfortable with its views and actions.

Outside of that, what random people who vote for Mary or Miranda do or say is not attributable to them.

okay- by that logic, Mary was the LEADER of the Mckinley PTA. Does that make her responsible for McCrazy's screaming at APS staff at various school moves meetings in 2020 and shouting down other speakers/ APS staff members?????

It’s unfortunate how many people think the APE group is all crazies. There were a very vocal couple of nuts that made me mad - one of them Apparently left but That’s not the majority. At this point it’ll be hard to dismantle that perception unfortunately
