What potentially toxic food did you love to eat when growing up?

The filet of sole (albeit with gobs of butter, not margarine) sounds like the way Julia Child would prepare it... not "toxic" per se.... but yummy and decadent...

What's alfajor?

Alfajores are south/latin american treats - like a cookie sandwich. Two cookies with dulce de leche in the middle, then the whole thing is covered with powdered sugar. There are some good ones out there!

Speaking of pixie stix (yum)... there was a candy out that you dipped a candy stick into powdered candy to lick. When I was in junior high, I did something similar, only I dipped a carrot into powdered lemonade or koolaid mix (the with-sugar kind) and licked it off the carrot.

[hangs head in shame]

but hey, the carrot is healthy, right???

Little Debbie Nutty Bars
Tang
Pixie Stix (someone mentioned these earlier - basically flavored sugar in a straw!)
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Fluff ( I see it in the store but have not had it in say, 20+ years)
Poached Eggs with toast

What's wrong with poached eggs with toast? I eat that every weekend.

Why is Tang bad? Ok, besides all the sugar, didn't they use it for space missions?

I can't believe there's been no mention of Velveeta cheese. That was the gold standard for every cheese need in our house growing up.
My grandmother still has a block of it in her fridge at all times.

I grew up in the south. So..fried chicken, fried potatoes, fried fish, fried shrimp-so sad. I hate fried foods now. Oh, country ham and red eye gravy with biscuits was so good!

We also grew up with rotel dip-velvetta with rotel tomatoes. I still cannot live without that except I use 2% milk velveeta.

Cadbury Eggs
Nutty Bars
Reese Peanut butter cups/eggs/christmas trees-Still LOVE them

Or as we call it in our house: "Yellow Box Cheese"

Truly a classic!

yes

The carrot cancels out the ill effects of the sugary mixes.

How about that shredded gum that was supposed to mimic chewing tobacco? It was in a pouch and everything!

Other than that, Ramen noodles (I still love those -- but cannot believe how much fat/calories are in them! Apparently the noodles are fried...), anything with alfredo sauce.

By the way, I totally love pixie sticks!
