Dupont circle deteriorating

What is she supposed to do? Her constituents believe enforcing quality of life laws is racist or mean etc. This is true in nearly every neighborhood in DC.

Because I don’t want to walk my 3 year old to school past sh*t-laden alleyways and a couple that is obviously nodding out on opioids? Okay. You can have dupont then because I’m leaving.

None of what you're describing is going to hurt your precious little snowflake. Check your privilege.

It isn't? Because if the 3 year old runs ahead of you for 1 minute, a lot could happen. You want your 3 year old with this? I doubt it. Isn't your chid precious too?

Maybe you're saying you've got bigger problems because you are worried your 3 year old will get shot -- but guns tend to come with heavy drugs, so it isn't unrelated.

PP don't fall for anyone defending s*laden alleyways. That is not/should not be the norm for city living.

Did you know that even poor, black locals don’t want to live like that either?

God, right?? Where do liberals get the idea that Black people are ok with this???

I agree. It’s the normalizing of the abnormal.

DC welcomes public defecation and vagrancy so maybe it's the parents of toddlers that don't belong there. I believe people started getting those diseases from inhaling defecation up there in NOMA which finally got Bowser to clear out an encampment.

Oh I WISH the NOMA encampments would be cleared out. Instead, we've decided to cede public space to hundreds of tents, effectively cutting off the neighborhood east of the underpass/tracks from the Metro Station and everything west of the tracks. And you can't say anything about it without people shaming you for talking about "unhoused neighbors" who are also "residents" of the community. Whatever.

I think the city should designate a plot of industrial land as an official encampment zone. Put toilet facilities there, and staff it with a permanent presence of social workers, janitors, and police to keep cleanliness and peace. It would be the ONLY place in the city people are allowed to live in tents. Every other street encampment would be removed, daily, without exception.

Yep!

Agreed. And it's also part of the reason libraries haven't reopened.

I am not in DC but maybe you are right. They should do timed entry and advance registration though.

Yep. And there should be entrycity work positions in cleaning at these places and streets, public restrooms etc. Do it for 6 mos and you get work experience and move to more managerial experience. This would be great work for homeless people who have some competence and want to earn a little bread. Before you flame me, my grandma was a janitor. Nothing wrong with honest labor.

I honestly thought I would catch cholera and die the one time I had to use the restrooms at Union Station. Unclean public restrooms in America's greatest city are just shameful.

What do you think the police would do? Loitering isn't a crime. Trespassing is only a crime if the property owner wants the person to leave. By the time someone's overdosed they're not in possession of the drugs anymore.

Public camping is unlawful. So is littering. So is public “elimination.” So is aggressive panhandling. So is incommoding the public way. So are disorderly conduct, assault and resisting arrest, all of which are a not infrequent result of contact between police and drug addicts, particularly when as often is the case the individual in question has one or more outstanding warrants.

The police do nothing because they are not told to do something by their superiors.

If the police did do something, they would be recorded, called all sorts of things and abandoned by the same superiors.

Um- okay what's the next step? Fence those encampments off? Make they can't wander into the neighborhoods? Urban life has always been gritty, it was kept somewhat respectable in th past by police responses that are now frowned upon. Bottom line is, if you want nice, you have to move out of the urban areas.

Yikes people, or options aren't just accept it or beat the shit out of people we don't like. Why are people living like that and what else can we do? There are plenty of other options if you actually care about these people.

So outrageous. Smug, condescending liberals insisting that black people want piles of human turd everywhere with no police to help them if they are assaulted or robbed by roving drug addicts. Insanity.

Yeah as a POC I find this really offensive. SMH.

Who said anyone wants piles of crap in public? Exactly no one. Where we disagree is what to do about it.

At least one person is in favor of shooting people and dumping their body outside of town.

I'd prefer to create public bathrooms. And pay to keep them clean.
