My kid in CES got into eastern. Are the MAP scores on the paper? I don’t see them anywhere. They won’t be going. It’s way too far away. Hope one of your kids gets the spot! ![]() |
My guess is that it is not a truly random lottery. I don't think there is any such thing in MCPS. My oldest is in college, so I have been around the block with magnet admissions. In the past they have always tried to balance classes for gender and they can legally take FARMS status into account. My guess is that both of these measures as well as trying to get representation from all ESs were all taken into account in the final selection. |
I've been on DCUM for more than 10 years, and always hear this refrain, for test scores and money matters, and I really don't think that's true. I don't think people have any incentive to lie while anonymous. On a thread dedicated to posting scores and magnet acceptances or rejections, it makes sense that most of the people responding will be those whose kids had the stats to get in, right? If my kid didn't stand a chance, I would ignore the letter and go on with my day, instead of agonizing about it on DCUM ![]() |
What does "lottery" mean? - Do parents deserve to know how it proceeded? Are there something like witness, needed? |
They didn't make the cut to be in pool? Or they were in the pool and didn't win the lottery. 270s and straight As are nothing to brag about for a Humanities sixth grader. I’m a little embarrassed for you that those are the stats you think should qualify your kid. Ignore this troll. The truth is that very high MAP-M scores can be achieved by prepping smart math-oriented kids, but very high MAP-R scores can not. A 270 or above in math is rare but does happen every year at the 5th grade level. 270 in MAP-R? I have yet to hear of one, and I've been around for many years. |
We'd appreciate it if you could share the stats for your child. Fall 2020 MAP scores in particular. |
I do wonder if they gave less weight to the fall MAP scores since those were essentially unproctored. |
I'm certain that's what they did, but it was taken into account nonetheless. |
Right, but that’s what people are focusing on in this thread, and I wonder if that’s explaining some of the discrepancies. |
Anyone can file a FOIA request. Go for it! |
And report back please and thank you. |
I would be happy to provide, but I don’t know how to find them. When my older was in 5th, the paper had her scores on it, this one doesn’t. Is it on ParentVUE somewhere? |
Yes, under the Documents tab |
Yes, under documents |
Yes. ParentVue, look at the left hand column and select the last item, Documents. |
