I do think this cover is a depressing commentary. i think it makes you realize that this current lifestyle we have isn't exactly fulfilling or amazing in the long term. Compared to something that may sound boring or "lame" like raising kids and doing the work of a family. But when you see those old covers compared, to me, the family scenario looks much more satisfying. of course, YMMV, some dont want that kind of like. But I think it made a lot of people think |
And she's wearing pretty lipstick and her looks nice and tidy. |
^her HAIR |
What’s with all the brand placement? |
I think the point is that she does not need to clean up the house. O zoom - just curate the 8 square feet behind us and screw the rest. |
It's weird that the online culture warrior critics are somehow making this into a supposed referendum on women choosing to be single. Um ... she's literally supposed to be on a internet date! |
I expect, by that standard, pretty much every woman on DCUM is a fake. |
The youngest girl... LMAO! |
Unmade bed, used ppe and old Chinese on the floor suggest a gal who's so depressed she can't even take care of herself. Yet when she goes to visit her family over the holidays (likely in flyover country), she'll posture she's happy with an exciting job in the big coastal city, and is just way too busy for a serious relationship. Meanwhile her "simple" cousins she always secretly judged never left the hometown's region, they became nurses, teachers or stay at home moms — they're married with kids and a mortgage. |
Yes, this is really weird. Some sort of Rorschach test on what people think of women or millennials or something. Where are people seeing that this woman is "choosing to be single" or making some kind of statement on lifestyle single or married. I am married with kids now, but before that I was single and working. Pretty common life pattern. Had this pandemic caught me at that time, I would probably be doing what that woman is doing. It wouldn't be some commentary on whether I wanted a marriage or family or kids. |
Seriously, I’m a millennial and my life looks much more like the cover above. Sometimes I wish I could be like the solo lady with cats and a drink cover! |
Wow, you just said a mouthful about you. |
This expect mine is with colicky infant twins - I love them but what’s wrong with being a single cat lady? Her life is just as valid and fulfilling as any other. |
What is so great about being married with kids? I’m married with kids and have a house, and I can see being happy as a single person with cats. |
Adrian Tomine is one of my favorite "underground" cartoonists! So great he went viral. |
