Everything about this is lovely except for the floor. Need to see more contrast there.

Agreed. Needs a wood floor.

We purchased a fold out kind of shelf on hinge and in the space left we put the kinds of large pots and pans and unusual items we only use in Holidays. Tucked away nicely and yet easy to get it when needed. Behind the Lazy Susan is where who know what lives !

Do you have a pic of this? That corner space! I have an abyss there and I need a solution.

We have a big kitchen, dining area, family room combo. For the dining table we had a big counter height table built with legs that match our kitchen island legs and old wood table top finished to match the floor color. It’s so much more functional than a regular height table and really blends in with the room.

We also went with two dishwashers and two separate sink areas. I regret not putting in a big ass sink. We also put in an automatic ice maker because the ice is so much better than from a freezer. Make sure the layout is right in terms of where the dish/glass/cutlery shelves/drawers are relative to the dishwasher.

Ditto on the touchless faucet. We have the FLOW one and it's great.

Large, single sink under window (we chose white and I love it)

Fridge - full depth (not counter depth), door-in-door for easy access to most used items (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-door-in-door-26-0-cu-ft-side-by-side-refrigerator-with-thru-the-door-ice-and-water-stainless-steel/7902529.p?skuId=7902529)

Wide enough walkways, such as around island - no less than 36-40"

Pantry - we don't have a closet for a pantry, but we have a floor to ceiling cabinet with 4 pull-out drawers (love these) below about 4.5' and shelves above

A microwave where you can just push 2 and it cooks for 2 minutes (we didn't get one of these)

Pull out trash and recycling together

Deep drawers, but at least 1 regular lower cabinet

Large clean island (no range or sink)

Hafele and Rev-a-Shelf both make fold-out corner cabinet shelves: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rev-A-Shelf-15-in-Corner-Cabinet-Pull-Out-Chrome-3-Tier-Wire-Basket-Organizer-with-Soft-Close-Slides-5PSP3-15SC-CR/207113535

it all depends on what space you have to work with. I love having a separate pantry, which is also where I have my freezer and microwave. Combo fridge-freezers just means I want both more refrigerator and more freezer space. I have a 36" all-fridge in the kitchen and a 21cf freezer in the pantry.

I have a 36" gas range, and then have an electric wall oven in my island. The range is flanked by two 6" wide pull-out cabinets for spatulas, spoons, chopsticks, cooking oils, etc. The range hood is 48" wide, and 27" deep rather than 24" deep. This was also me hedging my bets in the event I felt I made a mistake with the 36" stove, we would be able to put in a 48" stove without otherwise affecting the cabinetry. (i am happy with my 36" stove).

-lights. always put in more recessed lights than you think you need.

-single bowl, deep, 32" wide sink, with one of those faux-professional faucets with a pre-rinse sprayer: https://www.ruvati.com/products/rvh8300

-a baking sheet/cutting board cabinet, next to the island oven.

-lots of deep drawers with heavy-duty bearings/rails.

-and yeah, heated floors if you can manage it are lovely.

The posted photos of the 'large appliances' do not look as large as what the poster stated- that she had a 71 inch range and two 48 inch fridge and freezer. I cannot picture that.

It's great because when you are prepping, or a guest comes over and joins in, you can now prep independently in different sinks. Or one sink area is 'clean' and one is 'dirty'. Or fill it with ice and it becomes a beverage center. More gets done by more people without bumping into each other and fighting over one sink area/one tap.

We did deep drawers, lazy Susan corner, only a few open shelves in a designated coffee corner. We did choose wood and the key is to match the style of your house. Our house is 100 with lots of woodwork. We picked a simple frame style (almost Shaker without a dust ledge), quarter sawn in a medium stain.

We also did a prep sink and a huge cleaning sink, and few upper cabinets to let in more light, and actually had double dishwashers. Pull out trash, spice rack. Did not have: under cabinet lighting, double ovens.

Here's a link the a 71 inch french range. Shipping alone on this bad boy costs over $1000 takes a few months to arrive, and with options it's likely close to 30K.

48"separate refrigration is a custom offering. Basically it's a commercial sized subzero or viking and custom cabinetry on the front. Viking offers an enamal type finish so your refrigerator and freezer can match your range if you prefer that option. These are not appliances that your going to find online or at Best Buy. They cost about 10K apiece. Placed side by side with opposite handles it's a beautiful look, but you need a huge kitchen to pull this off. This is probably a 200K kitchen job.

Everyone's general feedback was so helpful, I have more questions to crowdsource.

We have to decide between a banquette or a freestanding kitchen table--banquette would mean sacrificing some drawer/cabinet space, but would probably fit more (kids especially) seating. We'll have separate dining table in dining room, adjacent to the kitchen. Anyone have thoughts?

Also, we're seriously considering getting an induction range. While I know the fanciest homes tend to have giant gas ranges, from my research, induction seems to be faster and somewhat safer with little kids. We're ok with limiting the cookware, but would love reactions from the crowd!
