Just spoke to an MCPS teacher who said she was 99% sure MCPS will be DL in the fall

I see a Mexican food truck parked near our school.

Every time I pass by our local mcps elementary school there have been at least 3-4 work trucks parked out front.

That's a promising sign. Are they MCPS trucks (it'll have the logo on the door) or a private company? Did you notice the company name if so?

Some schools are due for renovation work -- could it be related to that?

I'd really like schools to be open for some form of F2F in the fall, but I'm really concerned they just can't pull it off in 8 weeks.

Private trucks as far as I could tell. And I didn't notice the name. It could definitely be for renovation work though as our school does in fact need that so who knows? But i have seen trucks every time I go by which is about 2-3 times a week.

Schools traditionally do maintenance and renovations during the summer months.

Trust me: they aren’t building bubbles or plexiglass partitions.

I visited my middle school to pick up equipment and a HS to drop off records to register a child coming from out of state. No evidence of any coronavirus-related renovations.

I'm almost as certain as the teacher friend that it will be the hybrid. All of the districts who have announced already mentioned working with neighboring jurisdictions. If MCPS went against what everyone else is doing I'd be shocked.

The shoe is on the other foot: it's the other districts who will be forced to reconsider their plans. The cautious districts will decide at the last minute, and the way cases/hospitalizations are trending, they will decide for DL.

The cases, deaths, hospitalizations are all still declining in Maryland. What on earth are you talking about?

Probably because neither is necessary to reopen.

Overcrowding is an insurmountable obstacle to creating groups for hybrid learning.

If MCPS is willing to increase busing and perhaps drive certain students to underutilized schools, we might be able to offer hybrid learning to all families.

If this is not possible, and it very likely isn’t given busing capacity and traffic issues, then some overcrowded schools will not be able to subdivide their large population in a safe manner.

I doubt there is enough plexiglass masks and hand sanitizers do any of the recommendations for school. I saw masks in stores for the first time today but it is in western Maryland. Still haven’t seen any thing in stores for masks in MoCo.

Good grief. Target has masks in all locations. I was in the Rockville target last week and there were tons of different masks.

OP—yes, this has been known for a while. DL only.

Um no it hasn't? Mcps hasn't said anything. And the meetings
Talk about 2 options. IMO they will be forced to do the hybrid of at least 2days of f2f because none of the special needs kids are getting their adequate services.

DP here. It's not official, but it's what what some MCPS staff have been told (and have shared to others).

It's what MCPS staff have been told by whom? And how do those people know?

I'm all some sort of in-person plan this fall, but there's no way. It was never going to be more than a hybrid plan, and if anyone thinks that MoCo can pull off the logistics required for a hybrid model in the time it has, well, you have a lot more faith in the school system than I do. I'd rather they not bother even trying and focus on improving the distance learning experience. They have to do that anyway.

My principal said (not officially, in a casual capacity ) that she expected full DL in the fall and hybrid in the spring
