My thoughts exactly. Many pedophiles and even serial killers tend to have excellent reputations until they're caught and the truth comes roaring out. Hopefully, the truth will come out soon enough through a speedy trial/admission. It would be horrible to further victimize the boy(s) he allegedly molested by not believing them due to the beloved teacher's wonderful reputation.

Come on. This is Sidwell we are talking about. Doesn't matter if the charges are true or false. There is no way they would ever be able to bring this guy back after being charged (as in, the police have reasonable grounds to think he did this act) with sexual abuse. I completely believe in due process and that he should be considered innocent until proven guilty. But Sidwell knows that there is no chance they would let this guy back in after being charged with this...guilty or not.

Or, to put a slightly different twist on it, even if the sexual allegations proved false there is apparently evidence of inappropriate relationships with students: extensive contact outside of the school, etc. That would likely be grounds to prevent reinstatement by any school (not just Sidwell).

This is a horrible, sick, tragic thing to happen. There is MUCH MORE that is going to come out about this incident. Not positive for the teacher, let me just say that. I have a family member at Sidwell, in the middle school. The teacher was well liked by everyone, no one saw this coming, and most of the students say this could have never happened. Now, however, Sidwell is trying to "reach out" to alumni to see if this has happened before. Amazing how they have KNOWN since the summer and they are just now reaching out!

I think the evidence will show that this man is guilty of a lot more than just the incident with this one student. In addition, Sidwell was wrong in telling parents (when asked why this teacher wasn't at school during the fall semester) that the teacher had a "chronic illness" ... that is where the lawsuits will begin. They could have said "he is on admin leave" and left it at that. Having said he had a chronic illness leaves the door wide open for others to have contact with him. Even the teachers didn't know why he wasn't there.

Why would any parent think it is ok to have a relationship with a teacher where a student is "hanging out" with them? I would hardly think that opens the school up for liability.

He was suspended in August, the sleepaway camp would, presumably, have been over the summer. Was there sleepaway camp during the fall?

In all fairness, technically sexual abuse could be interpreted as chronic illness.

Sure it can, but chronic illness means that his sickness was ongoing or reoccurring. So this implies he may have other victims.
