It’s really crazy to me. And the whole sign stealing thing from OneMontgomery. So two-faced.

The what?

Some lady took a steve Austin sign but she took
Some other people’s signs too like Sunil and Jay. Steve is very sensitive though and likes to make it seem like he’s being targeted. Too thin skinned.

I have seen tons of Steve Austin signs, all illegally placed. Not cool.

This bothers me. And I was kind of listening to him at first. He’s making our neighborhood look like the hood with all of the random signs in corners and medians. Clearly illegal and makes the neighborhood look trashy.

I saw illegal Sunil signs up. Personally, I don't care, but if it's a problem for one candidate, it should be a problem for all candidates.

That was Lynne Harris in an email to Sunil Dasgupta. In fairness the quote was actually:
“wouldn’t it be interesting if NOBODY knew which school their student would attend… if every year, or every time you got ready to move to the next school in the link –ES, MS, HS, –it was a role [sic] of the dice?”

No, it wasn't.

Also, what she said is basically what Warren Buffett told Michelle Rhee about how to solve problems in urban schools: “Make private schools illegal and assign every child to a public school by random lottery.”

The issue is that people believe they bought the school when they bought the house.

It was in an email she wrote that was public because it was under her MCPS email and someone requested it. She did say it. You can add context but it certainly lets you know where her mind is.

Also no. She wrote an e-mail to a BoE member.

And yeah, the context is relevant. "Wouldn't it be interesting if" doesn't mean "let's do it!"

If people didn't believe they bought the school when they bought the house, how do you think MCPS would be different?

I think a lot of people would avoid Montgomery county or send their children to private schools.

This is a new claim and since most of these are not true, I’d love to see a link to the case.

Google it! I’m off the clock.

Nothing.

DP. I Googled it. John Garza is

1. the guy who repeatedly sued MCPS in 2006 and 2007 about including homosexuality in the family life curriculum
2. the guy who is representing the plaintiffs in Cabin Branch who don't want their kids to have to go to middle school with kids from Montgomery Village
3. one of the lawyers suing Hogan on behalf of "Reopen Maryland LLC" (whoever they are)

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zKnJ81doTuhuv596kWYRSMUvVcQd392l/view

(Evidently a busy man.)

Steve Austin said in his Maryland Matters piece that he has never met or spoken with John Garza.

So you're basically agreeing with the Warren Buffett/Lynne Harris hypothetical, here.

It may very well be true or have some truth to it. But don’t bring down MCPS to meet this idealistic viewpoint. This assumes people are forced to use public schools. News flash - they’re not. People here have options in nearby counties and/or the means to just get out of the public system. You are going to create greater inequality Between the haves who can afford private and those who can’t and less resources as some take their property taxes elsewhere.
Dumb.

Supply and demand. We’ve currently had a strong public school system until these yahoos got a hold of it.

"We have to do what the rich people want, or they will take their ball and go home!"

is not a factor in MCPS educational facilities planning policy, nor should it be.

He’s said where he’s worked in the past. He’s been harassed. People like you are obsessed with him. I don’t blame him.

Maybe he has. We don't know, do we?

He's hardly unique, as a candidate for BoE, in having unflattering things said about him. He does seem to be unique in declining to say where he works, though.

I’m certain his opponents would have turned it up by now if he had been.
Meanwhile Lynne Harris has her name on court cases deporting people and *crickets*.

Please provide specifics that explain why this is relevant to the BoE race in 2020?

You can’t be serious?

PP you're responding to. I absolutely am serious. When did she do what you're saying she did, and in what capacity?

A cornerstone of his campaign is his purported financial expertise. Portfolio manager at a big defense contractor? Geez, I’d be awfully surprised if a multi-billion-dollar enterprise like Lockheed Martin would be shaking in its boots because of a county board of education race, no matter hot heated. Austin has said he worked for a couple of hedge funds (unnamed and for an unspecified amount of time) and at Merrill Lynch, after the dot.com bust. That would put him smack in the middle of the timeframe when Merrill almost went belly up because of its enthusiastic dive into risky subprime mortgages and related investment schemes. So, yeah, i’d like to know more about his finance background before entrusting him with making decisions about taxpayer money.
Maybe he is a financial wizard! Who knows? He won’t say. Has he ever worked for a developer? If so, who? when? He talks the talk about transparency, and is highly critical of the lack of transparency from the current BOE, so to be consistent, he should walk the walk when it comes to his own campaign. Otherwise...he’ll just come across as another hypocritical, two-bit politician.

Wow, you guys are really pushing it. Whether Merrill did badly or poorly when he was there, I doubt this guy was so high up that he was steering the ship.

People in finance, at the very least know how to read financial statements and understand what financial auditors do and the need for it. I don't see anyone else on the BOE slate with similar experience.

MCPS BOE has been really lacking this. FCPS has an independent auditor, while MCPS does not.

What I find really funny is all the focus on Austin. THere's what, 15 candidates? Why are there no threads asking about Ahadpour, Chaudry, Geller, Odongo, Rhode, Osorio, etc?

All I can surmise is the two "establishment" candidates -- Dasgupta (support by MCEA teacher's union) and Harris (supported by MCCPTA) must really be worried about Austin and their supporters are starting all these threads about Austin.

What's next? Blame Austin for staging the moon landing? Attack his kids by spreading rumors one of them forgot to wash their hands after using the bathroom?

Feel free to start some.

Meanwhile, I can recognize the difference between

A. Austin had no experience in MCPS before last fall's attacks on the boundary analysis, and he's pushing for "transparency" while being unforthcoming about the "finance" background that, according to him, qualifies him for a seat.
B. Austin staged the moon landing.

Probably other people can too.

Obviously you know you weren't being truthful and have nothing to link.
But nice try with a flip response.

Someone answered on page 2 that he is employed at Lockheed Martin and it was barely acknowledged. Posters then continue to complain about his mysterious employment and how he's not qualified without even looking.
Yes, I'm talking to you 8:30.
