Is anyone else (secretly) liking social distancing and schools being closed?

For those of us who have jobs we don’t spend all day cuddling.

Justifies being a SAHM to older kids, amirite? This will be lazy women’s excuse to not work forever. What if there’s another pandemic?

Not your concern in any way.

Anonymous wrote:No. This is terrible. I have medical workers in my family, including someone who is testing people in her role. I have lots of high risk people in my family, including my parents. People’s livelihoods are being ruined. And there is no good exit plan or strategy at this point. And we are not prepared as a nation for the losses that will come over the weeks ahead. So, no, I think you must severely lack any sort of empathy if you are enjoying this.

OP didn't say the entire pandemic situation isn't terrible. Her post is about "social distancing and schools being closed" not the conditions for medical workers.

Listen - if you like social distancing and homeschooling, then you should social distance and homeschool full time - even after this is all over - if it ever is. Very clearly you are privileged and can afford to do so.

I am really appreciating my neighbors more actually. We've been communicating more by group chats, saying hello while walking our dogs or out biking - during a regular commuting year, I barely see them. Even though we can't truly socialize, there is a feeling of togetherness now that we are all housebound that is comforting at this time. For the most part they are all good people looking out for each other and our kids.

+1. Clearly there are a lot of posters who were unhappy with their lives and relationships with their children. I’m not one of them. I want everything to go back the way it was before.

-1. I think it's just that some people can see the silver lining in the ways life throws you in different directions. Some people are just glass half full type of people.

Agree. And there are some who are miserable no matter what situation they are in. Like the first PP, who, no matter how much she protests otherwise, is and has always been a miserable shrew.

You are extremely privileged, OP. Please acknowledge that.

If I didn't have to work all day, then yes, I would be very happy.

Are the people who are so loving this situation the same ones that are screaming at others to stay home and not leave the house under any circumstances?

Yes

No. I want to go to the bookstore--browsing brick-and-mortar bookstores is one of my great pleasures and stress relievers. I want my little boy to be able to see his friends and go to gymnastics. I want our family to go sit on the grassy hill at minor league baseball. I'm tired of having to juggling work-from-home without any child care. I'm tired of not being able to give a friend a hug. I'm desperately tired of trying to come up with something new to entertain a 3 year old when we're in isolation due to known exposure.

Im not that bothered by staying home. With my high school senior that will be going away in 6 months, I think, anyway.
