If atheism is not a relgion, why they want to convert everyone!

This is so inane. Plenty of religious people accept science. Plenty of scientists are religious. Find a better argument.

What you say is true. That's because they can compartmentalize, i.e., hold two completely different viewpoints in their head at the same time for reasons of their own. Do not pretend the two are actually compatible though, they're not.

You don't know very much about religion, I'm sorry to say.

However, many people I’ve said it to, again after they brought up religion first, would act like I was violating their personal space as soon as I started saying what I do not believe in. If my lack of religion makes you feel uncomfortable, then why do I have to put up with you bringing up what you believe in? Seems like a huge double standard.

Your experience doesn't seem to quite fit in, if it's true that they always brought it up first, and assuming you were polite instead of insulting (which we don't know).

That's besides the point, though. This thread is about atheist jerks. Lots of religious people on this thread have acknowledged the jerks in their midst.

Surprisingly, just one atheist here seems willing to acknowledge that there are atheist jerks, and that was in the context of the egregious atheist brother-in-law who sought out and shamed a person of faith at pp's party. The rest of you (and one of you just said there are multiple of you) are intent on denying and rewriting everybody else's experiences of being attacked by an aggressive atheist jerk.

well then why not explain what you are taking issue with, specifically, instead of making cryptic useless remarks???

Because your post is off-topic for the thread, you're clearly posting in bad faith, and nobody thinks you're worth their time. You're welcome.

Oh you again. I thought you left? Always criticizing, never answering any questions.

Thee are several people here arguing against you.

I've personally answered many questions on other threads. That's when I deal with serious posters. You're just trying to derail, so howl into the wind, baby.

I only posted agreeing with a pp that "many scientists are religious and many religious people believe in science," but the two viewpoints are not really compatible. No one has argued against me so your statement is inaccurate.

You always make cryptic, negative remarks about others' posts and never ever back it up with an explanation -- even with asked. That's how I recognize you. And I'm almost positive that about 3 weeks ago you said you were leaving. You can spot your posts a mile away.

You're absolutely crazy, DCUM telepathy run amok.

These ad hominems and derailment attempts are more bad online behavior, but they're not the bad atheist behavior that's the subject of this thread.

Let's get back to the subject of this thread, shall we? Why are you trying so hard to deny peoples' experiences with atheist jerks?

Science and religion both tell me the same thing: this world is extraordinary in its diversity and complexity and should be respected. Don’t you believe that, too?

+1. But please don't engage this troll.

On DCUM it is more about telling other people they are wrong, no scientific evidence, blah blah blah, than converting.

Some atheists are real jerks to be sure, but the premise of this thread (that atheists "want to convert everyone") is just nonsense.

One nice thing about Buddhism is you don't get pulled into these pointless conversations.

Also to the pp above who said UU doesn't believe in god, that's not true.

Agree about DCUM confrontational behavior (and by all means derail and hurl insults if you’re losing the argument).

Still, isn’t trying to disprove something pretty much the same thing as trying to convert?

UU's have a choice. Some don't believe in God - openly don't believe -- and are as much a part of the ccommunity.as those who believe. There is no dogma that members must accept to belong. No words about a supernatural god that are repeated during the service.

+1. I was recently in a Unitarian church that had a cross. But many don't.
