Maybe a gap exists in the first place because the county invites in so many illegal immigrants. Gee, who'd ever thought that if you come to a country illegally with almost no formal education and not being able to speak the language in which a country conducts its education and business that you might struggle? You reap what you sow. Progressives invite in tons of illegal immigrants. The children of illegal immigrants now require tons of open seats in schools to have a place to put their butts down in and also require millions upon millions of dollars spent on teaching ESL and remedial work because they lack English skills and may not have had a proper education back where they're from. Now progressives want to destroy whats good in the name of equality for the poorer performing students even though their lunatic policies in the first place caused the school system to be flooded by foreign nationals who can't speak the language. If I move to Japan with a high school degree, can't speak Japanese, and have no other useful skills, should I enter Japan illegally, expect them to provide education for any kids I bring and have the right to whine and moan about 'injustice and inequality' about the fact that I can't make it in Japanese society?

I haven't seen any invitations. What form does these invitations take? Are they engraved? Are they mailed? Are they e-vites?

I'm not the person you're responding to, but I'm sure you understand the point being made. MoCo (and the state of Maryland) has a high rate of foreign immigration, including immigrants who don't speak English well. Naturally, these immigrants do not have high paying jobs. So I'm sick and tired of hearing about the achievement gap, particularly as it relates to Hispanics, because the county refuses to have a discussion that includes actual data and wants to pretend that it's all about discrimination. In fact, this county provides lots of opportunities to immigrants, including in the school system. It's a joke and an insult to have to listen to Nancy Navarro pretend otherwise. Maryland wants to continue the high immigration rate because otherwise they would be losing population. Fact.

Partially. But, let's be honest. Montgomery County, in particular, encourages illegal immigration so that wealthy business owners can continue to have an endless supply of cheap labor. It allows business owners to make more of a profit, when they can pay people crap wages, ignore safety regulations and skimp out on offering health insurance.

And, Montgomery County politicians want votes.

There is no other logical reason why Montgomery County embraces illegal immigrants and illegal immigration. People in the county are directly benefitting from illegal immigration, or else it would not be so welcomed.

Perhaps a better way to phrase it would be that MoCo makes it very inviting for illegal immigrants because we don't cooperate with ICE and we contracted with CASA to build day-laborer centers in Gaithersburg. But I'm sure you knew this and were merely being pedantic.

Oh I agree.

Montgomery County prefers to have cheap labor so that the wealthy can have nice lawns, and cheap landscaping workers. And, the wealthy can get their cheap child care providers. Plus, the cheap labor for construction work.

Who cares about the Latino women (and young women - one of the cases was a 6 (!!) year old girl, FFS) being sexually assaulted? Nobody in MoCo, as long as companies can keep their cheap labor source.
