The other point, that GDS has more prestige, is just laughable, but perhaps backlash from dealing with the DC government will change that. Seriously doubt it though.

The point wasn't which school has better infrastructure/facilities. It's how each school deal with its facilities limitations. GDS spends considerable money building better facilities. Maret steals from DCPS kids.

Parents with no food on this fight...but could the GDS poster/s behave in a more civilized and constructive manner? You are reflecting poorly on your school.

DP: PP perhaps didn’t phrase the comment for polite society, but the point is fair enough.

NP, with no link to either school.

If by prestige, you mean stuff like having families of wealth attending, then I agree. If you mean academic prestige/quality, then it's not a close call: GDS is light years ahead of Maret, at least once you get to MS/US.

This may or may not mean anything to you:

https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-private-k12-schools/m/washington-dc-metro-area/

https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-private-high-schools/m/washington-dc-metro-area/

But all of these schools are excellent and have features that are better fits for some kids than others. YMMV.

Those lists are manipulated by users -- the more time and effort your marketing group puts into it the better your chance of flip flopping with an equally good school this year or next year. There simply is no truly meaningful high school academic difference between these schools.

And them when you sort the same schools for 'Best College Prep": https://www.niche.com/k12/search/college-prep-private-high-schools/m/washington-dc-metro-area/

Does any really think any of these schools fails to excellently prepare kids for college? What is the point of such a "ranking"?

Not getting into the big 3 designation fight. But yes, GDS is a top school.

+1 If Maret were paying a fair market amount to the DC Government or had other options they would use them. But they prefer to cut a backroom deal that costs DC kids and save 1%ers the extra 500$ in tuition per year per kid to maintain its own fields.

+1. Sidwell is the big one because of Presidential prestige. GDS is a powerhouse academically. Maret has some loyal alum/children of once famous types, buts it’s reputation is slipping and all the news articles on the Jelleff deal just served to highlight their shaky finances, indifferent leadership and poor infrastructure.

Why do people assume that these posters actually have an affiliation with GDS? This is an anonymous site, folks!!!

—an actual GDS parent who hasn’t met any &:$(/) there (okay, one. Every school has a wacko or two)

But you - you! - are an actual GDS parent!

Or not.

As long as Maret remains more difficult to get in to than GDS, it will stay ahead of GDS. And I don't think the market is there for GDS to get more selective.

What is your public school? Think about all you could do for your kid with the tuition money you'd be saving. We sent one of our kids to GDS and the other to BCC. They're doing equally well. Looking back i think it was crazy that we spent that much money on private school tuition.
