Why and in what ways is Maret not a pressure cooker? |
Also, are any of these schools actually "pressure cookers" prior to the high school years? |
Wouldn't call Sidwell a pressure cooker in the middle school years, but the workload can feel intense at times in the 7th and 8th grade as they are preparing the kids for high school. |

No And def not for lower schools. |
If these schools are pressure cookers for at most 4 out of 12 or 13 years, what's the big deal? Why would parents want to avoid sending their kids there, especially when moving to a non-pressure cooker school is always an option if necessary? |
Most kids at GDS are super-motivated. |
Sure but the work is a notch below the other two which I think is great/ better to have less burnout and a little less learning. |

I wondered when the snark would appear and sure enough it did not fail. |
Maret is well below the other two in terms of prestige and infrastructure. They don't even have their own playing fields and have been doing shady deals to use a DC public park at a low cost because one of the Council Member's sons attended Maret and arranged for a sweetheart deal.

The Deadspin article is a better read on the Maret's use of public facilities--something parents should consider before choosing Maret. https://deadspin.com/the-legendary-public-rec-center-in-a-private-schools-po-1837648863 https://dcist.com/story/19/08/30/public-field-private-use-an-elite-school-has-had-special-access-to-a-d-c-field-for-almost-a-decade/ |
Oh so it was an inside job |
GDS is the one with no cafeteria, right? Glass houses |
