Prior to the law change, only criminals in DC had guns. Please share statistics on gun violence today yes the above crime was horrible and strange how someone clearly depressed "fell" through the system (or maybe not strange - all too common and as a society we should address), but has legal gun violence SPIKED in the District?

This is all just distraction that shows a deep confusion about how statistics work.

Here’s the bottom line:
DC wants to regulate handguns to reduce violence. Republican judges, chosen by the Federalist Society and promoted by Republican billionaires, stopped DC from doing that.

In many cases the effects of Republican gun identity politics can be obfuscated.
But not here. If that man had a legal handgun, he was allowed to have it because of Heller. Because of Scalia and because of Roberts.

They did this. This poor woman would be more likely to be alive today without Scalia and the GOP justices.
I am angry at the GOP for this and so we all should be.

Really? So sick of this argument. I live in Baltimore City and let me tell you something I fully expect every news headline that I see at night to be a black on black crime when it comes to handguns. Why do I expect this? Because this is what the black community in certain parts of Baltimore (the parts always on the evening news) do, every single day ... and it is ALWAYS black on black. It's not that it doesn't move me, it's just that I can now expect it because it has become the norm. To argue this is not the case and that people do not become insensitive to situations based one exposure would be small minded on your part. I do not see whites or any other poc shooting each other on a daily or even monthly basis. The norm becomes expected in life. Deal with it and stop dismissing the reason why people like me have begun to role their eyes, just stop.

I disagree. I live in DC and am happy with banning guns in DC. I also have access to a rural place where shooting for sport and hunting are part of the culture. I get both sides.

What I don't get, is the idea that there shouldn't be background checks, insurance and licensing for anyone wanting to own and operate a gun, just like a car.

Kindly explain, to the best of your ability, the material differences between an AR15 (which by the way cannot lawfully be owned in DC) and any other repeating rifle of your choice, elucidating, if you would, the reasons why you believe an AR15 is unsuited for hunting
