PLAYSEUM?

We went last Monday morning. Yes it was crowded. No, nobody tried to talk religious stuff with us. There was one staff person I ran into in various rooms, she's Indian but don't know her name, and she was nothing but polite and helpful. It's not really our type of place because my son's pretty shy and introverted and didn't really get into much stuff there (other than the animals), but overall the experience was good. I can see it being a real hit with many kids.

I went there with my son last week. I did not find any religious overtures. I was a bit disappointed by one staff person's demeanor with me when I inquired about places to park a stroller. My son had a great time. I could not imagine going there with more than 2 kids max though. It was quite crowded.

Does the owner know about this rather legnthy thread? I bet she'd want to hear some of these candid insights.

If the owner is reading this, please consider opening on Sundays during the winter. I sent my husband and son there yesterday with big fanfare and they were disappointed it was closed. (Yes, I should have checked the web site).

PLEASE!

Well, if they are as Christian as this thread makes them out to be, there's no way they are going to work on Sunday.

I went yesterday and could not have been more disgusted. It was overcrowded, overpriced for the product and worse than both of those FILTHY DIRTY. It is essentially a basement with many small rooms and different play areas. There is an animal room, dress up room, experiment room, snack room/kitchen, sand pit...

The space is too small and the only thing that appeared clean was the big bottle of antibac. It was a huge disapointment and a waste of the $15 we paid ($5/head). We stayed a total of 10 minutes.

I did not see anything religious though we were not there for any of the set activities such as book reading. You are better off heading to Barnes and Noble, your local library or Gymboree.

I need to state that I am not a person who is crazy about cleanliness or germs and was still very turned off by the care of this place.

So, does anyone know if this is true? I heard the Playseum might be closing?

I hope not. I hate to see little businesses fail.

I do not know what their future holds, but I cannot surmise this place is longlived. I went there with my son and daughter last week. (twin 2 year olds) and I was digusted by the general condition of this place. My friend went about a month ago. All she could speak of was the cleanliness of the place. I suppose it must have been right when they opened. So we went --and all I can say is I was disappointed. I think the kids were happy with the toys and the small rooms they went to and from. That is why we stayed. The price is fair enough. But what we got was a very narrow, crowded space, toys everywhere, sand all over the floor and some very obvious child safety issues. I think the owners had a great idea, but excecuted in in WAY too small a space. I noticed that there are not many staff people observing what is going on from space to space. I suppose that is true because it is too narrow and gets too crowded. I wish them luck. I do not see us going there due to the uncleanliness of the place.

Maybe they could open up a couple of rooms a bit, change the layout. Lose one or two of the least utilized areas.

I read a few posts about the religious under/overtones posted on the website...blah, blah, blah. Here's the straight story, I went there with my two kids ( 6 yo boy and 3 1/2 girl) on MLK Monday and we had a blast!! This is a real hidden gem in the heart of everything. We spent at least two hours there and of course that wasn't NEARLY enough time by the reaction from my kids. Not only does the place have a very comfortable, homey feeling, but everyone that works there does as well. I spent quite a bit of time talking to Gina the owner and it was very clear to me that her passion was genuine and from the heart.

The looks are very deceiving from the outside....very small door to enter. then you walk down a few steps to pay (so cheap at $5) and walk into a loooooong hallway with room after room of fun things to do. On the way in my son said..."Daddy, this place is small". On our way out he said, "daddy, how do they make a small place so big"?

Bottom line...go there....and stop thinking to hard about everything.

@I haven't been there but my nanny just took my son. She said that adults are charged admission. I think that's crazy. Adults are not playing, if our paying children are there, we have to be there. They should change this. It's a turnoff.

Can you name one park or theme or otherwise where kids pay and parents get in free? If you do, start a blog. I'd love to go to say... Disney free and just have my kids pay.

FWIW - she knows this thread exists. I spoke to her when I went in December and she was talking about it. I admitted I was the OP.

RE: "blah, blah, blah. Here's the straight story Steve"

So glad you got to the bottom of it all- and had a good experiece. "Bottom line" Conscious parents DO think hard about things. We do because we have kids, because we pay for something-- we expect something. Because we care and because it is about that experience. So if you do not mind being in a crowded space, with too many kids running around. All the power to you and your son. I think the main thread going through here is that the owners had a great idea, executed in too small a space, occasionally talk religion. All that aside- which anyone of more or less could probably take or leave- My concern is that there has been rudeness to the customers. That is not tolerable- EVER. since they are hello - kids. Oher than that it's caveat emptor-- enjoy what you can from it.

I will admit given the said cost of entertainment nowadays 5.00 is cheap for an entrance fee considering that it costs more for a movie, a trip to the aquarium or science center. But remember, we tend to get what we pay for. I do not mind paying for myself if I can fully enjoy the experience with my 6 year old and almost 3 year year old. I went there for the first time and while my kids were certainly excited about the activities and could not care less how big or small the operation was I was saddened that when I sat down to do the given art project with my children. One of the employess told me flat out, loudly, in front of other guests in a less than pleasant tone that she was not old enough. She then began to chat with other visitors. I was saddened because we had been having a great time and we had just gotten there. She offered no other alternative for her (ie- even crayons and a piece of paper to scribble). Maybe they are new at business and that is cool- but there are some courtesies we should show one another regardless of the venue. My kids did have a nice tine though.
