The Whittle school

Anonymous
My sense is the schadenfreude seems more directed at Chris Whittle and his many failures than parents who decided to take a risk on the school. Also, despite the many claims otherwise, for-profit schools are different than those that are not-for-profit. While people note similarities (HOS pay) and both are businesses, the model and goals of a for-profit school are inherently different and tread on terrain that SOME people find morally ambiguous, if not outright unethical.

How does Chris Whittle keep finding investors for his schemes?

Are they still opening the school in Brooklyn?

Money laundering and corruption.

What is Whittle? And who cares.

So why is the head of school leaving? Maybe part of a planned change once this campus got up and running? (I have no personal stake in the answer, just curious and wondering if there might be a positive reason.)

Even if that were the case, the transition would be June/July as is customary, not a few weeks into a new school year.

He left the organization and accepted a new position with a different school system. Not a positive omen. Very sad all around

All hires associated with the Brooklyn campus (as well as the entire team looking at new school sites) were just fired so expansion plans seems over. The grand ambitions used to attract investors appear to be smashing into reality

Is there a news article about this>

Perry Stein should get on this.

This must really suck for the people who wouldn't do private without the big tuition break and only have crappy public school options.

It's pretty apparent that the priorities are askew when you go to the website, click on the button for school leadership and the heads of school are 2/3 way down the page, after the company execs, the head of HR and the head of marketing.

What is even more amusing or sad or both, depending on one's perspective, is how much of the so-called leadership is actually still with the organization. Of the people listed on the top half of the page you linked to, the head of IT, head of development, head of global design, vice chairman/president, head of school DC are all GONE! And rumor has it that even Whittle himself has been sidelined. None of these updates made to the website probably because the head of IT left? 🤣

Which begs the question - who exactly is running the show and to whom are we entrusting our children!!

Avenues in NYC is still around but I believe Chris Whittle was given the boot from there pretty quickly. Wonder if the same thing is happening here to try to save the school?
