Living in the Washington area has sucked all joy from my driving. Traffic and cameras. 25 mph in the District. 35 mph outside the District on surface roads. 55 mph on highways.
The sporty Pontiac I brought with me to DC is long gone. 13 year old Prius. Paid cash.

This. I purchased a sporty car while I was stationed in Texas. Now I regularly drive it 25 mph here in DC.

Yesterday, I saw a Lamborghini heracan (sp?) and a McCleran 360? - Not sure exactly, ask my 11 yr old - both stuck, stopped, in traffic in DC in a 25 mph zone. They are 200k+ and 300k+ HyperCars. They do turn heads however. Much more than the hideous gigantic SUV off roaders which does draw attention with Why/WTH?

They cost $45k a year but it's worth it

Is any of this for a business and therefore deductible? Otherwise, holy sh#t. Why?

It does seem absurd. I don't understand how "it's worth it". For the kind of money they're dumping into those vehicles, they could just buy them outright. First off, who in this world needs TWO SUV's? That seems silly.

This isn't uncommon at all in wealthy neighborhoods.

SUV’s and especially CUV’s have nothing to do with wealth. 99% of you are driving CUV’s.

Silly old me thinking there was a relationship between the price of something and the income of people who buy it

Crossovers are mostly only a few thousand more expensive than the car frame they’re built on.

And sometimes crossovers are built on luxury car frames.

Why are you being obtuse

And yet they’re still just raised station wagons with plastic cladding to make them look durable.

I'm sure your bonus will be bigger next year and then you can afford one too
