I was wondering the same. Vienna seems to me to be a pretty decent bag. No mix.

I too believed the hype prior to moving to Finland, but I have sadly realized that it’s all a myth.

Please give us some details. This is interesting.

I live in Vienna and like it a lot (love, maybe, except like all of DC the climate and traffic sucks).

The only way Vienna is a mixed bag is if you look at GS ratings, which look at the achievement gaps. We do have a problem with a small cadre of non-english speakers hurting some of the ES and the HS rankings (Madison). But, it is a great place to live, with good schools.

Check out the Woodson pyramid in Fairfax. You can absolutely buy a SFH for $700k. Houses in my neighborhood top out at about $600k and we have a 4 bedroom with 2FB and 2 HB with a decent yard less than a mile from Wegmans. If you can carpool to work, we are very close to 66. If you need metro, we have friends who use the orange line from Vienna.

I cannot personally speak to the quality of schools because we chose private schools. However, several friends from our K-8 have kids in Woodson and love it. Many neighbors, friends, and co-workers have been very happy with their kids’ experiences in the ES and MS as well.
