OMG that existing ChCh moderator is a nightmare. She once called and lectured me for inviting somebody else instead of her to speak on a topic on which she thought she was the expert. Any alternative is worth supporting imo. Nextdoor: I am on neighborhood listservs mainly to facilitate lost and found dog postings and for that I find NextDoor an absolute nightmare. The fact that they don't even let you see posts unless you're in a certain geographic radius creates needless hurdles. A listserv is as still fundamentally an email service lets people communicate when they need to without "DM me but only if you have the same app I do" nonsense. With a listserv, you can put reply to posters with technology everybody has, and you can put people in touch with each other when you need to. And if somebody is out of control you can still block them. |
Well…the initial post was from 2018 and it doesn’t sound like the other Listserv ever gained any traction. |
The other lisserve did not ever gain traction but the Facebook group Chevy Chase Chatter has a couple of thousand people on it and is fairly active and mercifully not moderated by a nutjob with an agenda. And that nutjob has been in rare form even for her crazy standards the last year with the debate about the Chevy Chase Library site and the even stranger and stupider discussion about the long ago settled issue of turf fields at the Maret site on Nebraska Avenue. It is amazing what a disservice & embarrassment that person is to the neighborhood and the free and open discussion it deserves and would benefit from. |
