Nepotism also runs strong in India. Nearly 85% of the country’s businesses are family-run, and Bollywood is dominated by just a few families. Even job-seekers with impressive resumes have to fall back on personal connections to find work.

Those dynamics are now playing out at Oracle, the $160 billion California-based software giant run by Larry Ellison. Earlier this week, the US Department of Labor (DOL) sued (pdf) Oracle for wage violations and hiring bias, alleging that the company displayed “hiring discrimination against qualified White, Hispanic, and African-American applicants in favor of Asian applicants, particularly Asian Indians.”

The DOL says the discrimination stemmed from biased hiring strategies like “targeted recruitment, and referral bonuses that encouraged its heavily Asian workforce to recruit other Asians and its reputation for favoring Asians.”

No one disputes the facts. Elites ignore them or delete them.

It is a remarkable commentary that in this peculiar part of the labor market, an older worker is one who has passed his or her 35th birthday. Younger workers cost less than older ones, so many H-1B employers prefer young foreign workers to older (35-plus) Americans. Further, because of their legal status, nonimmigrants are more pliable (i.e., more indentured) than U.S. workers.

If one looks more carefully at these selections, it becomes clear that the system does not just prefer young males from India, it prefers young male Indians from areas where the Hindu religion is strong (a bit stronger than it is in the balance of the Republic). According to unpublished State Department data, the three Indian states (Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka) hosting two of the five U.S. consulates in India (Chennai and Hyderabad) that provided more than 59 percent of the H1-B visas issued in 2016 in India were 84.0 percent to 88.5 percent Hindu, compared to about 79 percent for India, generally. (The new state of Telangana, which recently split off from Andhra Pradesh, is still considered to be a part of the older state in these calculations.)

Stated another way, and using the same databases, the system not only favors young, Hindu males from India, it favors those from just the three southern Indian states served by those two consulates.

However, among the 474 separate occupations defined by the Department of Commerce, we find only a handful of majority-immigrant occupations, and none completely dominated by immigrants (legal or illegal). Furthermore, in none of the 474 occupations do illegal immigrants constitute a majority of workers.

Many occupations often thought to be worked overwhelmingly by immigrants (legal and illegal) are in fact majority native-born. After analyzing government data, CIS found that native-born Americans make up a majority of workers among maids and housekeepers (51%), taxi drivers and chauffeurs (54%), butchers and meat processors (64%), grounds maintenance workers (66%), construction (65%), and janitors (73%).

The demise will be started by a financial catastrophe. The entitlements and promises cannot be kept.

You decide who made the promises, but we're at $66K debt for each and every person in the country. And that's just the amount "on books". The "off books" figure is not 20 Trillion, but 200 Trillion.
