CogAT - 136
NNAT - Not Submitted GBRS - 14 Zip - 20120 Result - In We’re going from private to public, so my guess is that they only considered the test score and work samples (maybe the awards/recommendations as well). |
Good luck |

NNAT 145 CogAT 145 GBRS no idea No parent referral or optional materials submitted. We are already at a center school. I have mixed feelings. With an older child at same school in gen ed, I've seen what exposure to AAP has on self esteem for the gen ed kids. AAP parents are sure to let their children know they are special and, in turn, the kids can be brutal with their peers. I'm proud of my child; a conflicted emotion. He didn't do anything special and certainly nothing above and beyond his older sibling. They just have different strengths and weaknesses. |
I’m sorry, that’s a hard situation. We are in a Center school too where starting in 3rd AAP kids outnumber gen ed. I also have too more younger kids and I’m sure they both won’t make AAP. Like you said, just as awesome but different strengths. Honestly, I really wish we weren’t at a Center school and wished I knew about all this before we moved to this neighborhood (a long time ago). Good luck! |
I don’t like being in a center school either! DC’s school has four 3rd grade gen ed classes v. three AAP. That, to me, seems disproportionate enough. Having more AAP classes than gen ed just seems wrong to me. What kind of message is this sending? Do they even consider the effects of this on the self esteem of the gen ed kids? |
Try not to worry about it. Ask for the file from your AART so you have all of the information that the committee reviewed and then get the WISC. If your child did that well on the group tests, there’s every reason to think WISC will be in line. Waiting again sucks, but not as bad as the four month eternity of the initial referral process. You’ll know by mid-June. |

NNAT - 140 COGAT - 126 GRBS - 15 However, DS is in a language immersion program so we are not sure whether to stay in the immersion program or move for AAP. Would it put DS behind if we wait to reactivate AAP until 6th grade? |
| Congrats to all those who made it in!! |
Yes! So wrong! We have only 2 gen ed classes starting in 3rd and 3 AAP classes per grade. I really don’t like the idea of Center schools at all. It really makes kids and even siblings feel separate. |
If you are zoned for the Bull Run AAP center, I have heard not great things about it. |
Agree. Do you have any idea why your child wouldn't be accepted? Did you test prep? |
Me, as well. I think there were issues related to a principal who is no longer there, resulting in poor morale, high teacher turnover, etc. We’re hoping that things have changed, for the better. Worst case scenario is that we will have to go back to her school, and that’s okay, too. |
I think it depends on the kid. We are also immersion and in and we will be waiting for the time being. Once we are out of immersion we are out and I feel like DC gets a lot out of immersion now and will still have the option for Level III services. I am certain there will be parents going both ways on it. |
I don't know the GBRS yet. Also her COGAT composite is 131( that is 1 point lower than the cut off. Another reason could be her Verbal( verbal was lower than other sections, but since she is bilingual, english being the second language in our house we thought she is doing okay. |
DP. We turned down the Bull Run AAP center for our kid last year, in part because of the reasons listed above. I think we’ll defer for fourth grade too. I’d love to hear input from current families in case our younger kids are found eligible for the program. I’ll start a new thread about it later. |
