Is it OK if I swim with sharks when pregnant? How about sting rays?

I have way too much time on my hands, and actually researched the issue. It seems like at least some dolphins, particularly females are "interested" in pregnant women. See http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=dolphin+pregnant+women&oq=dolphin+pregnant+women&gs_l=youtube-reduced.3...95151.108903.0.109342.36.27.4.5.5.0.144.2154.21j4.25.0...0.0...1ac.1.SUSBzENnxdY.

But it looks safe enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh0v1_2JWMY. (Warning, this is actually an underwater birthing video with dolphins, so use your discretion).

OP here. Despite swimming with dolphins in two prior pregnancies, CPS has not taken my children away and I am pregnant with number three. I've been diving with shark and rays but no prenatal swimming. My vast expertise recommends against sharks; they can get excited by unusual shapes.

STUPID STUPID STUPID. My kids did this - do you have any idea how filthy and disease ridden the water is? Stinkorama.

I do it in the open ocean. I'm sorry you made your kids do it in a cess pool.

I was nearly raped by a dolphin when I swan with them while pregnant. The handlers had to hit the dolphins to get them away from me! They all bunched up and came after me. Of course I did not tell the handler I was pregnant. He wouldnt have let me do it. They kept saying, I dont know why they did that! they are very strong, it was a disaster. DONT DO IT!

I'm not about to click on any links that show unsuspecting dolphins being forced to watch underwater human births. Only to us fucked-up humans would this seem like an enchanting idea. Let's take this random animal that has nothing to do with us and have a baby near it. It's forcing the dolphin to be voyeuristic. I always thought those PETA people were over the top, but this is definitely animal abuse.

The company we will use says that swimming with dolphins is "not advised" for pregnant women. After some research I discovered that some places won't let a pregnant woman do it at all.

Has anyone done this or discussed it with their O.B.? I plan to ask my O.B. but would love to hear from someone who has done it whether the dolphins responded in a pleasant or unpleasant way. Dolphins can sense the second heartbeat so they know you are pregnant.

Seriously? Seriously? This is like an SNL skit. I can't stop laughing.

LOL! My thoughts exactly! This board is so f-ing ridiculous & funny sometimes. Thanks for the laugh.

Wow. Can't believe anyone was telling you not to, that it was too risky. A bit of research on their part would tell them that the main reason resorts don't allow pregnant women to swim with dolphins is because the dolphins will focus entirely on the pregnant women, to the exclusion of the other guests. (bad for business.) Dolphins generally love pregnant women because they can "see" the unborn child via sonar. It fascinates them. They like to come really close to the mothers and scan them with their sonar. Glad you had a good time with the dolphins.

If your stupid enough to take a risk with your unborn child's life to swim with a wild animal because of some childhood fantasy then you have some serious parental issues and probably shouldn't be having kids.

True enough, for the first part. However, despite dolphin behavior towards other porpoises, for some bizarre reason they have always been very friendly, curious, and gentle with humans. Don't ask me why. But there have been tons of cases of dolphins rescuing humans from numerous dangers, and of course tons of cases of dolphins and humans forming lasting friendships and bonds. Again, not sure why this is, but you need to stop assuming that the way dolphins treat other porpoises is the way they treat humans. If you are going to advice against it, base it on cases of HUMAN interactions with dolphins. Otherwise you come across as being a bitter idiot.
