Why is MCPS radicalizing our children?

I’m sure she thinks meds are part of a conspiracy by the “elite” just like fluoride in the drinking water.

First of all, Stoneman HS was not a gun free zone. There were armed SROs on campus, but their failure to act is a pretty good indicator that arming teachers and random civilians will not stop an active shooter, particularly not one who can do so much damage in a matter of seconds.

Second, mass shootings have NOT only happened in gun free zones. They have happened on military bases, in police stations, in movie theatres in open carry states, and on the campuses of open carry colleges and universities.

The truth is that, in the past two decades of ever-increasing gun violence, the number of times a "good guy with a gun" stopped anyone was...maybe one?

Active duty police and security officers are allowed to possess a firearm in most gun free zones when performing their duties. And you accuse me of misinformation??

I agree with you, OP. Which is why I agree with the student protests. The way you become a responsible, involved member of society is to start being a responsible, involved member of society.

Walking out of school is not responsible IMHO, and not a real way to solve problems.

Tell that to all the students who have been walking out for weeks in Florida. The state legislature just passed its first gun control laws in 22 years.

Minors are considered minors because they do not have the maturity, reasoning skills, and experience to make adult decisions. They can be persuaded by emotive vice intellectual arguments and this yet not ready to accept the responsibly legal adult status conveys. We don’t allow children to purchase alcohol for the same reason. Now indeed adults will make the same mistakes but an adult is held responsible for the mistakes they make, children are not. Or do you think, we’ll children will be adults soon, they might as well buy alcohol now and get experience?? So any politician who panders to the emotional outburst of children (likely under the influence of political activists) is a fool, and should not hold an elective office. Better yet, children will be adults soon, let’s have the ones interested in doing so buy a gun now and bring it to school so they can protect themselves and their peers. If you can allow these children to behave responsible, I’ll concede that we can let children who decide to go to protests leave school to do so.

First off, I’m a he.
2nd, I’m a public health advocate for fluoridated water.
3rd - I’m not on any medications and beyond my borderline overnight BMI of 25.5, I’m thankfully very healthy but I appreciate your concern for my health.

Here’s the thing... DD’s best friend is the child of Czech immigrants. Her father watched his grandfather, a veteran who fought the Nazis, have his guns confiscated by the State, arrested and executed. His father was jailed and tortured for attending the funeral. In School the teachers would add ish him for having a father in jail, not belonging to the party, other children would jump on him for being the son of a traitor. His dad eventually was released and when her father was a young man was able to leave the country. He settled in the US and now like us is raising a family with children in MC schools. Suffice to say his daughter knows how to use firearms. She relayed to my daughter yesterday that her school staged a similar walk out last week and she remained in class. The other kids asked her why she didn’t want to come out and help all the students ‘defend their rights’. ‘Aren’t you concerned about our sadety’. She flat out told them I not join you in attempt to deny other people their rights. Some kids said OK, others igorned but quite a few actually derided her. Called her names, teased her... but that young girl is made of strong stuff. What a great roll model and I’m so glad my daughter knows her and is friends with her.

Point is you are derisive to me no different than th bullies at school being derisive to that brave girl. Youre exactly the type of person we all should be most cconcerned about . Basically you are a bully and exactly the reason why our children should not be allowed to leave school to be coopted into your ranks or be allowed to deny others their rights. You don’t realize how very similar you are to those who took her grandfathers guns away and then executed him for not perfectly complying the official state doctrine of the day.

To bad these lessons of history aren’t taught in our schools anymore. A much more valuable lesson than jackboot training dont you think??

Yes yes, sorry for the misspells and typos, fat fingering on the smart phone with an in and ourt WiFi connection provides some ugly grammar. Maybe if I succeed in getting that BMI down to 22, fat fingering will be less of an issue.

How, exactly, does one call a 'principle'?

You can only call a principle if you are an educated, responsible gun owner who doesn't want his children used as pawns.

She says all the high schools are doing it and now its her school's turn.

So we pay taxes so MCPS can advance political agendas and allow our children to be used as Post-Modernist Marxist Leftwing propaganda pieces?

Call MCPS and let them know they best not condone this activist nonsense and ensure they hold each child accountable. Someone walks out, its an unexcused absence bar none.

I know most of MoCo is anti-2nd Amendment, but that matters not. Would we allow our children to walk out to protest abortion? No. Protest the Pro-Life movement?? No. Protest Islam? No. Protest Christianity? No. Protest atheism? No.

Right or left no one supports 'gun violence'. Still how many murders are committed in DC, Baltimore, etc etc year after year and nary a peep. Why, because there is no political traction to be gained from protesting those murders. But a school shooter... Ka-ching, time to cash in.

Teaching kids its OK to go protest whatever their heart desires (or worse, whatever pet issue school administrators support) irrespective of their responsibilities just infantilizes our children.
Dont like something, have a temper tantrum. You feel wronged... have a hissy fit. A teacher tells you its cool, go beak the law.

Look, most kids can't even clean their bedroom, yet schools teach them they can go out protest to solve all the worlds complex problems? Nonsense. Children need to learn they have duties and responsibilities and are held accountable to them. They need to go school, study hard, work hard, be something no just become the unthinking passive street rabble tool of agitators.

Then when they make something of their life, they can dedicate it to making the world a better place but they'll only be successful if they can take care of themselves first. That our schools have lost track of this is so very disappointing.

I've already called our principle to voice my concern, please if you agree with me do so as well. Our children need to grow into responsible adults to allow their full individuality to bloom , let's not allow them to be used as pawns.

Thank you.

I picked up the phone...
You can email too

I can't believe this. S/he really doesn't know how to spell . Why worry so much about your daughter's education? You've turned out ok, haven't you?

But it's ok for them to get a weapon of war with no background or mental check because of inalienable rights.

I think you should tell the principle about the bullies on the DCUM. That would teach them. But don't worry, OP, we will take your guns and not execute you. We will send you thoughts and prayers for your loss of guns.

"Teaching kids its OK to go protest whatever their heart desires " - you mean like in the First Amendment? Oh right, only the Second Amendment should be protected since that's the one you care about. Isn't that right?

The main issue OP raised is the leftist propaganda that MCPS spews at our kids every day. Our DD is a high school senior who finds herself in the unfortunate position of living in Mont. Co. and having parents who, at least in this area, are considered to have right-of-center views. She is told each day how evil her parents are because they believe in personal responsibility, support capitalist economies, and hold dear the first amendment guaranteeing freedom of speech.

It would be nice if her teachers exposed her to the other side of some arguments on topics such as what is believed to be man-made climate change, the wonders of socialism, how Israelis are solely responsible for the problems in the middle east, and so on. It appears that, in MCPS, this is too much to ask.

DD comes home nearly every day confused because her parents seem to be nice people who have strong values, only to hear how heartless and selfish they are from school personnel. She is only exposed to one side of these arguments at school. Fortunately, we have a good relationship with her, and while we explain our side, we make it clear that how she feels about these issues are her decision to make. However, it would be helpful if she heard the other side from the school when they choose to discuss these topics.

Imagine if you were in your workplace and were constantly hearing how terrible your loved ones are for questioning the majority opinion in our local area? We are outraged that our taxes are used to fund schools that perpetuate the belief that there is only one acceptable opinion on a host of controversial topics.

OP - thank you for bring this subject to light. It is a sad situation. We have lived in Montgomery County for close to three decades, so it's not like we are surprised about all of this. But it is still unfortunate.

I don't think MCPS is organizing or condoning this. Its the kids.

I seriously doubt that. If your child has been told her parents are actually evil - you need to call the school.
