She took more OOB.

Dr. B could always take a few OOB kids in kindergarten to bump up her number to justify a 6th teacher. Might not be so good for Deal, but would be good for the current class.

Parents. We need to unite. This cannot happen.

Dr B. doesn't have the same latitude Mrs. Main had she came to Lafayette never having been a Principal before. Mrs. Main had been at it for 25+ years. Dr. B just doesn't have the autonomy/experience to fight back against DCPS. She needs to have her contract renewed and is just in a very different place in her career.

There is also a different instructional superintendent than back in the day.

How does the new IS affect things one way or the other?

Which is exactly why parents need to stand up and take action NOW

Many of us K parents who are concerned have been taking action. First, we've been encouraging people we know who haven't enrolled to do so. Second, we have been in direct contact to relay our concerns with Dr. B, who has expressed encouragement that another teacher will be granted. If you are in a similar boat, you should feel free to do the same.

Things are going to be fine. They are not overturning Roe v Wade. You are talking about having a K class of 24 v 28. Perspective people!! Dr. B is doing everything she can and is advocating for you. Try to focus these enormous energies elsewhere. Plenty of more pressing issues out there.

That's great news!

I think she should be updating families daily. Will she pull kids out of the class list she already posted in order to fill the 6th class?

Of course. How else would it work? You can't complain about large class sizes and at the same time say that class lists can't change.

Ms. Main never posted class lists until the day before school started. I really like that Dr. B posts them early, but it does open her to a lot of criticism if things have to change (which is inevitable when there can't be a registration deadline).

Yes, of course. And then next year, if she doesn't post class lists early to avoid parents being upset with last-minute changes, parents will complain about how they don't get class lists as early as they used to.

I would be upset if my child was pulled out of a seasonsed teachers class and thrown into a new hire class last minute. How seasoned is this 6th teacher going to be? This is why Principals should plan ahead and make sure they have enough teachers during the normal hiring season! Just leave my kid in the class of 27.

You can't win with some people.

Most of the K teachers were new last year and people complained about that too.
