Lafayette Over Crowding

Why is 5th grades numbers so large with so many teachers at that level? I'm confused.

5th grade will survive, they go to middle school next year. Those babies in k should be the main concern.

I'm confused too why the science teacher can't have a homeroom (who go elsewhere for ELA and math). I think that's how it was last year. Will there be more science under this year's model?

Good question

Why can't you post on your school list serv and take ownership of your comments and feelings? This whole thing makes me really sad for the teachers and the kids.

Teaches get no respect, shocking I know. Every teacher/professional has to have their first year. New teachers can bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the classroom. They are often mentored more heavily from seasoned teachers and educational coaches. I'm an elementary school teacher and my students learned to read my first Teaching, just as they do now 16 years later, (plus two masters).

Teacher here! I think the problem is that some teachers act, teach, and dress unprofessionally now days. It gives all of us a bad reputation when one does it in a JKLM school.

Breaking update from the principal

Additional Kindergarten room is HERE!
DCPS has granted our request for an additional section of Kindergarten! We will now have 6 classes for the upcoming school, with class size at 23-24. Over the weekend I will be working on the logistics of hiring, class list revisions, and other details. More information to come early next week. Just wanted to send a quick update so everyone can breathe easy over the weekend.

Thanks for your patience and your support. Have a good weekend,
Dr. B

Better call every qualified teacher you know and ask if they know someone who knows someone who knows someone that still needs a job on Aug 4th.. good luck

Despite the potential pitfalls of a less experienced teacher, this is better than large classes. And, with the need for 6 classes two years in a row, it hopefully sets dcps expectations for 6 classes in the future.

I cannot believe the amount of whining on this forum about Lafayette. It is, by all accounts, a fantastic school full of high achievers, excellent leadership, involved parents, and a sparklingly new facility.

Are you kidding me??

I'm glad you got your extra classroom.

Now. Can you please be quiet.

It's a school filled with the children of rich, educated parents. Since that's highly correlated with high test scores, the standard metrics tell you nothing about the actual education happening.

The teachers were asked to write their own bios and were only given a couple of days on their time off.

They still should have been proofread.

Is that a bee concept?
