annoying things people do at the gym

Not wearing enough clothes-shirtless for men, underwear masquerading as shorts for women. It's really gross when someone gets up from a piece of equipment and there's a big crotch sweat stain (at least I hope it's just sweat!).

Every time, so not a one off that they forgot to bring a change of clothes. very odd, seems shorts would be more comfortable. Of course I'm not counting Otis, he is 84 years-old and wears a short-sleeve button up with pens in his pocket on the treadmill, I love Otis!!

Otis sounds awesome!

I teach yoga and had an "Otis"- He was one of my favorite students! Khakis, belt, and often left his shoes on- but he'll yeah for trying something new over 80!

-matching athletic clothes
-the social hour at the gym

Wait- you like unmatching athletic clothes? I'm intruiged. I don't buy "outfits" but I'm aware of how what I wear looks, just like when I wear street or work clothes.

I would accept almost any other annoyance these days if people would just get off their phones. It used to be that Bob the Bro would go over to a circuit machine (the only one of its kind in the whole gym) and do a set, rest, do a set, rest, do a set, and move on. He might be on there for a few minutes longer than you'd like, but eventually you'd get to use the machine. These days, Bob the Bro gets on the machine and checks his phone for 5 minutes. Then he does a set. Checks his phone for another 5 minutes. Does another set and then sits there playing with the phone for ten more minutes. At this point, you've got about 6 people who are nearby, hoping to use the damn machine but Bob has been on it for 20 minutes. And you've only allotted yourself 20 minutes for weights before you have to do your cardio and get home to get your kid ready for school. Bob is a douche. Don't be like Bob.

(and if you ask Bob to work in, he'll say "I just have one more set" and get back on his phone. Because I have asked.)

Don't be like Bob, be like Otis.

- loud conversations between friends using equipment next to each other

- when gym is nearly empty with several open machines and someone takes the one right next to you invading your space

- not wiping down equipment afterwards

Couples that set up in a class right next to each other, cramping up space, instead of working out in different areas of a room - where there is much more space elsewhere if they were just able to take a class without being side by side.

Or asking other people to move over so they can set up next to each other.

Those sets were real!

But why does this even bother you? Not slowing you down, not impacting your workout. Who cares?

I mean, unless they are hogging the mirror putting on lipstick why do you think they should wash their face before exercising. I'm coming from work, going to the grocery store after, and stopping by inlawas on the way home, why should I remove makeup to only put back on later?

I'm just embarrassed for you because you look like a tool.

DP

Really, this sounds like insecurity on your part. I don't wear makeup at the gym, but if you're really spending that devoting that much mental space to something that doesn't affect your workout at all, it sounds like you're stressing out at the gym instead of enjoying the endorphins exercise provides.

NP. I don't believe the makeup haters are in shape.

Wrong. Makeup hater here. D-1 athlete and sub-20:00 5K. Next.

Why are you looking at people's makeup? Shouldn't you be working out?
Your 5k time isn't that impressive. Non athlete here that can also run a sub 20:00 5k

LOL...if you're a dude, that's not that impressive. If you're a chick, prove it.

It's pretty impressive either way.
